It's that time of year for me to get robbed again.
I had a quote from hastings... £645, very reasonable. So I went to buy online, and there was the usual list of 'exclusions' - being a fraudster, not racing, that sort of stuff. But then I noticed it said 'any modifications including bodykits'.
Now my little C2 has a fixed rear RS spoiler and RS front scoops. Just look nice more than anything. They were on when I got it.
So I rang Hastings up, to see what they said. I figured that as it wasn't lowered, turboed, somethng like that, it would be a case of just noting it down. If anything, the bigger spoiler means it holds the road a bit better at motorway speeds if I have to swerve suddenly so is less likely to crash, also that not having the electric spoiler means that it would be cheaper to fix in the event of a rear-end smack.
But they came back with a quote of ... £2,500! I asked why, I explained the scoops and spoiler were standard factory-fitted parts on a different model, they didn't increase speed and (as above) reduced the likelihood and potential cost of a claim. But they wouldn't budge.
So I went onto confused.com, and only 3 insurers would quote for a modified car - lowest quote was Endsleigh at £1,350
I've since had a quote from Adrian Flux of £925.
If anyone can suggest another specialist who would give a reasonable quote I'd appreciate it.
Bloody insurance companies! I've got 18 years without making a claim, I've been driving porkers for the last 10, how on earth can they justify 4x higher cost? I could understand if it's some boy-racer sticking a nitro kit and turbo on his Seat Ibiza so he can race his mates, but a different spoiler? I suppose it's because a human would have to make a decision rather than some mindless call-centre school-leaver poking keys on a PC - it's easier to dissuade people with non-bog-standard cars than have to employ someone with a brain
