Insurance time, but I've 'saved' some money!

Hi all, long time no post from me,

Just been through the normal renewal web and phone hell. I know there's no such thing as a bargain with insurance, but just thought I'd let everyone know the prices I'd got.

All the usual culprits coming out at around £700 -£800 (eek) for a '88 944S parked on the street in SW London. First bloody Alternative (yep, the people with the really annoying ad), came back at £450 with no frills, but the real result was Liverpool Victoria!

Social, domestic & pleasure, plus Class 1 business use, unlimited mileage, breakdown cover, changed alloys covered (I've got the CS drop forged jobs), blah, blah, blah all in for £430. Not cheap I know, but nearly 50% off of what I thought I'd have to pay.

Hope it helps (no I'm not on commission;-)

hi

i just got a quote from PETER S TAYLOR tel 01273820303 for a 944s 1986 5000 miles max garaged in Aberdeen £220[:)] but i must joint a Porsche club so on yesterday i joined Porsche GB just waiting for my membership to come through in the next 14 days

Hiya Tim - went through the same process about 2 weeks ago and a 30% percent increase on my renewal from last year despite no convictions/accidents seemed hard to take - like you trawled through Porsche Mags/Web and Peart ( business placed with Royal & Sun Alliance who direct where £110 more [&:] ) and I settled for £670 on a 10,000 miles per annum, parked on the drive with 4 years no claims - the nearest quote to that was something like £900 which is robbery IMO. Liverpool Vic quoted £1240 [:'(]

After Liverpool Vic and others were around £800, AG Manning (details inside the back cover of PorschePost quoted me a wholly nicer £314.00.
(age 26, 6 points etc )

this thread could of course become quite annoying for those who've just bought insurance - but hey who cares ! [:D]

BTW, I'm on the David Dimbleby Programme on Sunday Morning !!! Yay !!! I'll see if they can let me wear a club baseball cap...

Yeah, I think the reasons that most didn't want to quote me a reasonable price (or at all in some cases) were:

1. It's my only car, so I use it for SDP and some business class 1 mileage (not just commuting to work)
2. I park it on the street in London
3. I've got an SP50 from a year ago
4. It's got 'non-standard' alloys on it.

So, if you are lucky enough to have a second car and can avoid any of the other red flags then you'll no doubt get a much better quote on a classic policy from one of the companies listed in Porsche Post (or on this website).

I've just done the insurance trawl after getting my renewal quote from Heritage, £338 this year up from £275 last year [] same 15month old SP30 & Jan 2004 bump on the snow & ice (£1600 payout) 3000 miles pa, garaged, imobiliser etc etc
So following this thread I called A Manning, about the same so no point moving.
Called Peter S Taylor £178, talk about "Quote me happy" [:D][:D][:D]

Hi Ivan & All,
I have got the written quote in todays post.

Insured with Allianz Cornhill
1989 944 Turbo
Agreed value £8000 (£10 per £1k over this to match club valuation when it comes through)
Milage limited to 5000 pa
Garaged
Declared my £1600 bump last year & my SP30 from 2003
Premium can be paid by instalments 10% deposit & straight split into 11 payments by DD for the balence.
Only £220.50, inc insurance premium tax, with £100 excess (£60 for glass)

This is over £50 less than the £275.10 I paid Heritage last year and beats the renewal premium from them by nearly £80

This is by far the best I've found, would recommend anyone renewing to give Peter S Taylor a call on (01273) 820303.

:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO: "QUOTE ME HAPPY" :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Renewal on 924S just came through from RH Specialist Cars (they advertise in all the usual places)

garaged
second car
5000 mile limit
me and wife (both early 40's [:(], both no convictions or claims [:)])
Cat2 alarm
includes european wide recovery
no mods
will take DD over 12 months (but charge extra for the privilege)

£165.00 comp. [;)][;)][;)]

Peter S Taylor quoted £176, so pretty good alternative, but I've no reason to change as RH have been OK.

Anyone care to hazard a guess what'll happen to the premium if I change to make this car my daily driver and remove mileage limit (because it could happen mid-year)?

........Phil

Absolutly right Phil no point changing but atleast you have confirmed your quote is competitive, as long as yours is agreed value that is.

I'd sort of worked that out [:(] but thanks anyway Fen [:D]

Only 2 quotes so far as a daily driver (12,000 miles)

Peart - £355
Carole Nash - £490
all the others I tried just put you into endless queues so I haven't got anything else to go on yet [>:]. Peart answer the phone quickly and deal with you straight away - after holding on everywhere else I'd be tempted to go with them just for the 'service' of being able to talk to someone.

I asked around for comparisons with my £165 classic RH renewal. Best was AON at £163 but they'll add £50 to get me the breakdown cover. Carole Nash came up with a whopping £330 - not much less than the Peart single car, 12000 mile policy.

And the guy at Heritage just told me not to bother trying anyone else when I told him the RH quote - he reckoned no-one can match them at the moment.
