Insurance & Trackday Experience

I've had an insurance quote from AON which includes 5 trackdays per year. As a trackday novice, they've said I would need to complete a Driver Tuition day and produce a certificate before I would be covered by them for club trackdays.

Is this typical, and if so, can anyone recommend a good day long trackday tuition course?

First time I have heard of this - but then Underwriters are always thinking up new ways to make you grovel.
My cover is with A. Manning as they cover Porsche trackdays for nowt extra apart from a £750 excess.
My premiums for the last three years have never been higher than £355, but then its perhaps because I'm a pensioner - but you would think I would incur a penalty for being an old codger, wouldn't you?
Don't quite understand it but aint complaining.

Seems to be more and more common these days. I bet the insurance companies are waking up to the fact the first time out on track is when you are most likely to bin it.

I also have insurance with A. Manning as they cover all PCGB track days and do not have this restriction.

If you can afford it spending your whole first day with an instructor next to you one on one is to be recommended. Cost would be around £400 ish (ouch!) on top of the track day. First you know you are not going to bin it and second you'll learn more in one day than 5 days on your own.

I have a very good policy with Classic Line, free trackday cover and competitive premium. If you want to go with AON, ask them which courses they recognise.

I was happy with classic line,,,,unfortunately their renewal quote in marchwas up 40% from last year!!!...without a claim.....usual game of hunting around.
When they ask about trackdays, do you have to say you are a novice?
If you go to your first and take it easy avoiding red mist then you should be ok.

Thanks everyone,
Have spoken to Darren Cootes at Classicline and he has been extremely helpful.
Now I just need to buy the car!
