Can anyone recommend an insurance co for classics which gives reasonable rates for cars kept on the street? My insurance renewal is over £500, twice what it was last year, because the broker says that the underwriter has massively increased premiums for cars which arent garaged or kept on a driveway.

Last year many of the advertisers in the mags, eg Carole Nash, Jardine Faber etc, would not even give a quote because I dont own a garage (not unusual for houses in london though of course).

Anyone have any recommendations of companies to call?

Cheers....

Try Diamond they used to be ok with mine parked on the street...

The other thing they don't like is 'only car'... never understood that one either.

Have you tried AON or Hillhouse Hammond? I may well have spelled one or both of those wrongly!

I use ClassicLine, who advertise in PP, and they seem to be pretty flexible.
Good luck. [:)]

I used http://www.confused.com/ and found them to be good.

This is not a specialist classic car insurance but it searches several insurance websites so saves you the trouble of doing so.

AON £86 Fully comp....
The only car bit is that if you say you only do 3000 miles ayear and it's your only car then you are going to use the car more if you have other cars to use then it spreads the risk eg cheaper. [8|]

AON are cool easy to get on with and use.

Agreed values abit of a pain but other than OK

number in the mag

I know I speek to other 912 owners I reckon so far I am paying the least. It has gone up just as I have added agreed value which has put it up £25 [&:] have to shake out my money pig for that.

That is with a restricted mileage but when I quizzed them it is unlimited they just want a figure to put down as you are not going to use the car much. Cool [:D]

£86?! One quote I got yesterday was nearly 10 times that!!!!

Well I'll definitely try AON... Will also give some of the other suggestions a go - thanks all.

Gav - yes I'm currently with Diamond, and they have been really good in the past with other classics I've owned. Pity they cant come up with the goods this year.

Well I've made some more calls, and have finally been quoted a "reasonable" price - ClassicLine at about £290. I would imagine this would be halved if I had a garage.

FYI - AON would not quote because my 912 is un-garaged and I live in London.... This is the case with the vast majority of the insurers advertising in PP incidently.[]

Tjark - not aware of any age restrictions. They were only concerned about where the car is kept, not the fact that I'm under 30.

Cheers...

Oh well you got there in the end
