I have been using Locktons for the past two years and thought they had been fantastic......

I just tried Locktons and they are more than double my renewal notice from current insurers Mannings. I also tried Classicline who were keen to match my target number (15% less than current) and got very close.

Locktons underwriter's book is aimed at very low mileage high value cars, mileage being the killer for Porsche owners who use our cars.

I used to use the Porsche GB insurance scheme (via Marsh brokers) which I found very competitive but I needed more track days beyond their 2 Club days hence Mannings for me.

I insure through NFU being a country gent ;-). We have all three cars with them on a multi car policy. Our 997.2 Turbo is our cheapest car to insure at ~£300 per annum for 5k miles, the Mini Cooper d and AMG GLC43 both costing more.

Can anyone suggest companies that are competitive and understanding in providing 997 insurance. Currently with Lockton.

I also use Mannings but do have the mileage limited to 3K. Important points for me when searching for insurance were agreed value and ability to use Porsche approved repairers otherwise I would have just added the car to my multi-car policy.

FYI, I paid just under £400 for myself and my wife with a £250 excess (10% of value during track days) on a 997 tt cab. I am not sure how many track days are included but this car wont be seeing one!

Regards,

Steve.

Thanks Steve

I've found a 997 S I am buying and it will be my daily driver and will probably base it on about 12k miles pa. Obviously the premium is important but treatment if there is a claim is too!

ooh yes...............I'm joining the 997 Club Hurraaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah

I tried Locktons but they could not get within £500 of my renewal

I'm with Henderson Taylor, ERS policy with 90 days foreign cover and 5 track days covered. £590 for a 2010 997.2 turbo

Thanks Zeb

Spoken to Locktons and they have said that their quotes are based most effectively on low mileage occasional use Porsche's. My 997 S will be my daily driver but will still only see about 12k miles pa which is the level their cover jumps up quite a bit so their quote is £970 but it sounds like I can probably do better even with 12k annual mileage

Just renewed my SL AMG (same insurance level as the 997) and saved over 30% with LV. Have you tried an online quote say with Moneysupermarket. You might have a pleasant surprise as I did.

I shall remain with Locktons - very efficient

Hunt for a lower price but I prefer to have the belt and braces view

I have a multicar policy with Admiral, just renewed with 6,ooo miles per annum on my 997.1 Carrera 4S Cabriolet with X-51, for £272, fully comp, protected no claims with 20+ NCD.

I tried Locktons and a few other specialist insurers but in short stayed with AVIVA. I have 2 cars with them and I checked all salient policy details and compared to specialists (track days excluded). Other than seeking a guaranteed value, I found all details very similar, I was mainly interested in which approved repairer I could choose and was delighted when they named a company S'Stone OPC use which is a Porsche known specialist. Equally my wife's Merc. on the same policy would also use a well known Merc. approved body shop should the need arise. All this for approx. 50% of the annual premium of Locktons.

Lockton will have a sensible conversation with you if their initial quote is way out - they provide the dedicated PCGB specialist policy with considerable benefits over other companies and value their relationship with the Club and its members highly.

As ever, the devil is in the detail but having had to have a new windscreen fitted to my car last week, there was absolutely no issue about this being fitted by my local Porsche Centre so I got to swan around in a brand new Cayman whilst my car was repaired to the highest standard with a genuine part. My premium is remarkably close to what I pay LV to insure my old 5 series worth less than 10% of my 997!

I have been really pleased with them.

Perhaps in view of your position, they make a special effort for you then, Rob . [sm=kiss.gif]

I try each year since our Club tied up with Locktons. We have a pleasant chat, then an admission they cannot provide a competitive premium quotation for me. It has regularly worked out to be up to 3 times the price of current insurers with indistinguishable cover differences. Many of our members have suffered similarly. I have had 3 windscreen claims, each replaced swiftly with a genuine part supplied by my PC and a courtesy car too.

I would respectfully suggest, judging from my own experience, there is some work still to be done to provide the dedicated PCGB specialist policy with considerable member benefits you refer to.

Ha! If there is a Chairman's discount I look forward to renewal time!!

I'm not saying other insurers can't offer the same benefits (although most don't) but last time I made a windscreen claim with one of the firms listed above I couldn't use my Porsche Centre and the job was unsatisfactory. Locktons give choice of repairer with no quibble.

I would be genuinely pleased to learn feedback from any member dissatisfied with their quote (email me at chairman@porscheclubgb.com) and would be happy to feed back to our Commercial Director too. There is no point the Club promoting a policy that doesn't suit its members - but that said, the conversion rate from quote to policy is exceptionally good.

I suspect that high mileage is the problem although whatever criteria is used for insurance companies to come up with premiums has always been one of life's great mysteries to me...
