my classic car insurance with RH Specialists, limited milage of 5,000 miles costs me £144 per year

I now need to raise that as I wil do more like 10,000

the figures I am getting for this unlimited milage are astronomical, £860 or so, with a £500 excess !

Does anyone have any advice or sugestions of good insurance companies to bring this to a more acceptable level

Has the club ever consudered doing insurance

thanks

My experience in looking at different sorts of cover is that restructed mileage is the key issue in getting sensible premiums for this sort of car, and I think you may not find much alternative to the sort of figure you quote if you're looking at daily drive mileage. Somewhere around 6000 miles a year seems to be the threshold.

Perhaps you need two cars at 5000 miles each per annum [:D].

I am in the same situation. Currently have about 500 miles to go and I'm only 3 months into my insurance year. £860 sounds ok to me. Certainly in line with the quotes I was getting. Serves me right for using the SC as a daily driver I suppose.

My modified '87 3.2 carrera comes in at just less than £600/pa, unlimited mileage, business use, PNCD etc.

It must be an age thing.

how old does a person have to be

please tell, I'm 41, is that not enough ?

seriously, who are you with
Jonathan

Well, I am of a certain age, shall we say - although, of course, I look many years younger !

Anyway, I am with Liverpool Victoria. And I live in central London, which must up the price a bit.

whats the number of RH Specialists, My wifes classic insurance is now up for renewing and the quote of £418 limited miles of 5000 seems a bit much

I pay About £280 fully comp 5000 miles P.A. agreed value £15000 on my 1988 3.2 targa. This is with classicLine Tel,01455639000, for me and the wife to drive I am 42 she is younger.
This was the best price that I could find in January, I too would like to know the tel number of RH specialists as I have never payed as little as £144 for any motor insursance and would like a quote from them next year, it sounds too good to be true.

RH are at 01277 206912

they advertise in classic and sports car every month
car has to have thatcham category 2 immobiliser and be garaged

I have been with them for a few years on the 911 and an earlier alfa spider

I have just doule checked and yes I was paying £141.75 for fully comp, 5,000 miles 12 months insurance

good luck
do I get a commission !

I think the key is to not use the car for commuting or for business use.I am with Aon and for a 1980 SC,agreed value of 12K unlimited milage,£100 excess, garaged at night I pay £236.It could pay to run a banger to drive to work in and keep the 911 for social&pleasure use only.

Insurance is a great laugh isn't it?!

With max no claims, being 34, PCGB member, on the street, '80SC coupe, no mods, in South Central London, no alarm/immobiliser specified by isurance co. (guess they figure they don't make a difference), limited mileage of 6 or 7K(though how they would know as they've never asked me the mileometer reading), I pay £630 which I was happy with. A 600cc racing bike cost me closer to £750... I also did an agreed valuation of £9000 by providing them with photos. Of course if the unthinkable happened, just like every insurance co. on the planet I'm sure they'd wiggle out of something, somewhere along the line.

Oh, who was it with? Lancaster Bomber insurance or something!! I'll give you details if you're interested...

[;)] I've recently switched the SC insurance from classic to "normal" including basic business usage. I had two quotes for c. £1400 and then Liverpool and Victoria offered me £580. Needless to say I bit their hand off. Doesn't included breakdown (UK or Euro) but did included Class1 ? business use.

Summary :
1982 SC alarmed/immob/garaged in cheap postcode
U/L mileage
Not agreed value
Class 1 Business
Excess is £350 istr

Have got my 83 SC with AON 5000 miles per year alarmed and garaged when at home.
When I first got the car I was with Bell Direct unlimited for about £700 but picked up a speeding ticket in my skankey Astra estate put about £150 on the price so went to AON for £260 might be worth as sugested above keep for best.

in the end I went to CAROL NASH, new policy for around £340 with 6,000 miles and commute to work

At least that sees me legal for a while whilst I think what to do in the long term

thanks all for the advice
