Insuring 987 Box

Have finally taken the plunge and purchased a 2006 Boxster in Midnight Blue from my local OPC and now need to arrange insurance prior to taking over ownership at the weekend (I won't actually pick the car up until April as I am going on holiday and don't want to leave my new toy on the drive!!)

The OPC have recommended the broker A-Plan whose quote is somewhat higher than I was hoping (and some 20% more than the likes of Admiral and Elephant).

Does anyone here have a polivcy through A-plan, are they any good?

The car has a reasonably high spec and the broker is saying that I need to declare every option as a modification otherwise it won't be covered which appears to be contributing significantly to the difference, Is this true or is the broker taking advantage? (Haven't insured a car in ten years). The two internet based insurers I have tried don't even have the ability to add some of the "modifications" through their websites.

Can anyone suggest similar specialist brokers that I might try??

Many thanks

Paul

I started off with Tesco's (because was a young driver in a new car etc) then moved on to Adrian Flux (good service all round - just couldn't beat renewal when it was time) and am currently with A-plan.

Nice and friendly bunch of people and took their time in clarifying all the points. Was a good chunk cheaper but i think that's because a lot of these brokers target new customers rather than remaining competitive on renewal. They were able to tailor small changes to the insurance that the larger players would likely reject.

However, i'd want to confirm in writing that's the case in respect of declaring all the options. I asked this specifically and was assured that they are not concerened with any options that fell within factory specification. In other words, if it left the factory that way, options or not, its included.

But there are a good deal of brokers out there who insist that any specification that differes from standard spec should be declared. Elephant come to mind, and their accelerator plus zip bang package that only charges you for 10 months instead of 12 isn't always accepted when you move elsewhere and want to confirm your NCB.

Flux, on the other hand were also agreable on options and had no issue with a fully loaded car.

Best of luck,

Pop

One thing to be aware of with Admiral (not sure about Elephant) is that should the car be written off, they will only pay out for the base spec car, and will not include the cost of any options you might have, even if you declare them.
They will load the premium as you have options ("makes the car more desirable to steal..) but not pay for them in the event of a claim

Try some of the Porsche specialists such as club partners and insurance panel companies like: A Manning, Peart, Performancemarque, Carole Nash etc.

I'm on my second year of my Boxster S 55reg Annual mileage about 10k. It's got every option box ticked. When I bought last year, I was talked into insuring it with the OPC recommended agent Cheam Insurance, said he couldn't be beaten for price. You know the story eager to but it, get it, and drive it!!. He wacked me for £980. This year I started sniffing around and eventually found that the Liverpool and Victoria were unbelievable. ( Also got my house insurance with them too now) I've only got 3 years no claim and am over 50 they got it down from £900 to £450. Weren't even bothered with options or if it was garaged or not, plus I've got an LU6 post code. Givem a try, you never know "¦.Cheers Mike

I to have a 987 standard car to be fair so was with Saga( yes I am an old git ) renual this year they had pushed there price up so went on to Confused or one of those sites and got cover from the AA insidentaly is underwritten by Saga only £250 excess full protected 6 years NCD ...........£240 so shop around my own car which I also use for business is only £188 and I can get it down to £150 if I changed companies NU where offering a £75 cash back.
Good luck

I know several people with A-Plan (Reading area) who get good deals, but they couldn't come close for me in North Wales !

I used A.Manning for a year, great service (Porsche specific scheme), but currently have witched to performance insurance who alos have a Porsche specific policy.

Its horses for courses i'm afraid - some people seem to get some ridiculously low quotes (i recently saw one person claim a quote of £400pa for a 987S !). Make sure all options originally declared on the original invoice are covered - some policies replace with a stock factory spec car !!

Try Marsh t/a Porsche Insurance. Their best quote for me was with NU - £650 for an '07 987 S. Just had a (not my fault!) crunch and the claim/repairs are going through very smoothly.

Good luck!

Many Thanks for your replies, currently looks like I'll be going with A-Plan as they are most competitive- Had an ammusing conversation with LV who assured me my car was in fact a 3 litre and thought £1,350 was a good deal.

Thanks again

Paul
