Insuring a car at a different address

Does anyone have any experience in dealing with insurance companies who allow you to insure a car at a different (and more secure) address?

Not sure exactly what you are planning to do, but, "my" address (where my house is and cars registered) is a remote location in the western highlands and so quite a "secure" and cheap location, but I added my GFs address in Glasgow as a "kept at" address because, if they get stolen, it's more likely to happen from her house and I'm there a fair bit of the time.

This was very easy to do. It did add not add a huge amount. From memory it added about a third of the cost of actually insuring it as if it was "owned" at her address (based on fact that we both had RAV4s at one time and she was paying more than me for her insurance through same company).

But no idea what they'd do if your "kept at" address was cheaper - I don't think they would be interested because you don't even really need to tell them because it's not "increasing the risk".

Hi Mark

Thanks for that. I live in Liverpool and do not have a garage so am keeping the car at friends place.

This depends on the company but I am with Aon and have my car insured to be garaged at a different address to our home no problem.
All they needed was the address of the secure storage.
