intensive washers

As a new 911 owner am wondering how the hell the intensive wash thing works. Read the manual that came with car and not much help. So any help would be great. Just about got the heaters and blowers figured [:D]

Make sure that the intensive wash bottle has got the correct fluid (avab at most specialists or OPC - silicone cleaner I think its called, just thrown a bottle away.)
Under the tacho area are two flatish switches - one controls the electric mirror selection L/R and the other is for intensive wash.
Hope that helps

My intensive washers have just stopped working. I know the first step is probably to listen to the pump to see if its working. But are there any known causes of failure for this system.

check fuses first, then the pump, then switch/relay.

I don't get the point of it to be honest, doesn't just filling the regular screen wash water with washer fluid do the same job?

It probably doesnt do a lot but im one of those people that likes to know how or why things are or aren't working. [:)] Is it the left or right switch that works the intensive wash?

the intensive wash one is a sprung rocker switch, i.e. you have to hold in the ON position, it will then return to OFF once released. The other switch alternates the toggle switch for the electric wing mirrors. Also the sunroof switch is under there too if you have one. Just fiddle with them all until you figure what does what.

If memory serves me right I remember reading somewhere that the piping has one-way valves to stop the liquid flowing backwards and these sometimes get clogged.

I too am not sure of the real benefit as both normal and intensive use the same plumbing, maybe something to do with a better clean to clear the bugs accumulated from the autobahn off the screen

If the intensive washer is not working be careful. If the valve isnt working or the connectors in the tubing have come loose, you could be pumping fluid into the car. That will leave liquid possibly penetrating the body causing rust. You can trace all the tubing and check the connectors. Got mine working " dirt in the fuel pipe line Clyde" .If you look at the PET disc it really helps.

Thanks for the helpful pointers on what was orginally 'Veg's' thread, my apologies for hijacking it.

Simon what is the PET disc?

Had the same thing, you need to alter the screen viewing size of your monitor to see all the bits. Can't remember exactly so you may have to experiment......1280x something seems to ring a bell.

Far too technical for me £ 4.95 from the OPC and it covers every Porsche model from the year dot. IMO its a must have as the exploded diagrams for every area of the car show the original part numbers you need. Even when your not that skilled mechanic , Ive managed to order and fix our cars many times. It comes as a disc and slots into your computor/laptop. Great value
