Interested in a 996 turbo

RC18B 911 turbo

New member
Interested in possibly getting a 996 turbo after putting my Tuscan through a hedge backwards and just wanted to know what to look out for on them also if anyone knows of decent ones for sale would prefer a manual.
Is there anyone else on here who is 21 with a 996 turbo? if so what is insurance like?

There was a good buyer's guide in Evo recently. I dread to think what your insurance premium will be though! []

Ah yes so there was I'll dig it out later and have look thanks for that.
I'm used to high insurance premiums the TVR was almost £4k and at the time the 996 turbo was half that.

With a total loss under your belt, might be a bit higher now []

£2000 FOR A 21 YEAR OLD IN A TURBO??? Very surprised. On your own policy??

Yes, he's a monk living in Tibet, with a 1 mile lmited mileage policy.[8D]

I was quoted £4,700 on a Boxster when I was 27, and was paying just under £2k when I was 32 on the GT3, how on earth does a 21yr old get a quote that low on a turbo?

It was indeed on my own policy I got a couple of quotes like that, they ranged from £2,400- £3,560 although I did get one quote of £12,000 maybe it's because of where I live or something like that. It'll be a lot more now though.

obviously an inspired guess!!i couldnt even get a quote at all on my 21yr old clean licence 4 yrs no claim driving on my cayman s -eventually one came back with £15k and huge excess

I'm currently paying £642 fully protected, limietd to 5k miles, for me (29) and my partner, on the 996 turbo. 10 years no claims though.

Was paying £777 3 years ago on the Boxster S (2003) all through Adrian Flux, and they were really great, service was awesome!!

Take a look at the current edition of 911 & Porsche World - Seven page feature on 996 Turbo Buyer Guide.[:D]

You might run up a very large phone bill looking for insurance [&o]

Just collected my 996 Turbo today and have had it insured by Peart. Cost was £640 complete with all the bells and whistles, no claims protection etc. Cover for both Cindy and myself. Sounds as though £600 +- is about the level?

Cheers
Chris

That looks like a nice turbo esspecially in Lapis Blue.
I've gone and done it again, I've just purchased a Bright Metallic Orange TVR Tamora with quite possibly the loudest exhaust I've heard on a road car, probably a mistake but it has been fun so far. It was £192 cheaper to insure than the Tuscan too.

Great choice Chris, yeah sounds about right to me.

Good price too, nice one. Enjoy the car, be careful though, in all senses.
