Interesteing RS for sale

I dunno but it's underpriced. It might be worth asking Colin Belton at 9M what he thinks of the car if someone fancies buying it.

"minimal service history"- could hide a multitude of sins

Woops! I missed that bit. Even so, I suppose if you intended to keep the car for a long time and if it was inspected and was found to be OK with a good recent service record, then it could be worth it?

If it is a genuine RS and hasn't been written off and rebuilt and if it checks out mechanically then at £21K it's cheap.( Henry was asking £25K for a decidedly ropey white one a few months back.)
That's a lot of ifs though....

OK then 964RS guys - help me to get over this.

I WANT one of these fantastic cars (especially after seeing them on the dyno on Saturday at Weltmeister).

Price sounds too good to be true, so probably is. But my head rules at this time...

Spoke to the vendor (at about 10am) who had had loads of calls and e-mails already - not a suprise at that price you might think. Even had one guy wanting to jump on a plane from Germany to view it.

I am number two in the queue, as he was honouring the first caller that committed to view today - I have called him and left voicemail to see if it sold - watch this space.

He has had the car since July 03, and done one track day - doesn't use it enough and is being 'asked / nagged' to sell it - probably for what he paid for it if the price is for real.

He had Colin at 9M look over it and do the clutch after he bought it. Was also serviced at PCT according to the few records he does have. It has had a cage at some point in its life as there are marks on the front carpet etc. etc.

I have the 911 PW buyers guide from a couple of months ago, and will cross check chassis / engine numbers etc. I will get to see the car if I can and report back.

More to follow - hopefully, especially when I have my sensible head on again !

There is such a thing as looking a gift horse in the mouth and this may be genuine. However, it seems strange to me that somebody would try to sell it so cheap. If he had asked £25k we would still be saying its cheap, even with little service history.

I personally wouldn't buy a car that didn't show up through an HPI check unless I saw good documentary evidencethat it was kosher and that I could then check out by other means.

A couple of things to note. It seems to have been fitted with a roll cage that has now been removed. Why? Also, the drivers seat looks in very good condition for the milage. Maybe its been well looked after or maybe there is another reason it looks good (other than poor photo)

What would you define as good documentary evidence ? V5, HPI - any more ?

I also tried C2 RSO (letter O not number zero) on AA Car check and it says vehicle unknown - any idea why this could be. Have no reason to doubt the car right now, but have requested the vin and engine number as a start - I can check these as being genuine RS (as per 911 PW mag?).

If I am not sure then I will leave to those willing to take a greater risk than me.

Thanks,

I would suggest you go through all the usual checks in the buyers guides and talk to a few people who have been through the buying process but at 21k, provided the is a genuine article and has a number of the expensive bits (engine, brakes, wheels etc) in good order, that leaves quite a bit of money to get minor things fixed.

Feel free to contact me if you want answers to easy questions!! Good luck.

I went to look at a Maritime Blue RS about 2-3 years ago, advertised in the Times at £21k - which was cheap at the time. It had no history, was in a shocking condition - the inside looked like a dog lived in it - was given no mechanical sympathy - wheelspun from cold down the driveway at 6000RPM. The chassis number was not an RS one - but allegedly it was a pre-production car that had been at the motorshows...The bloke then scared the living daylights out of me in the most terrifying 15minute test drive I've ever been on..needless to say I walked away

I'm NOT saying that this is the same car - however from experience a £21k RS is likely to have some issues hidden or otherwise - and being on a car enthusiast forum you'd expect the chap to know the value of the thing - good luck with it.

Car has been SOLD - or at least a deposit taken. Not to me, but to the guy that went and looked at it on Monday afternoon. Hopefully he will join the club and post here.

The owner let me have the VIN, Engine number and pre private registration number.

The registration checks out OK with the DVLA, who said that they do not provide all details to HPI etc. - not sure where they come from then. Worrying that when I did a vehicle enquiry on the DVLA site it did not show up there either, but did when I rang them and they used there internal system.

The VIN number is NOT one listed in the 911 PW March 2005 edition buyers guide. It does NOT have the 9 as the 13th digit, and has an 'M' as the model year - i.e. 1991, when I understand it should be 'N' for 1992 MY.

Car was originally on a 'H' plate, but this is random from DVLA as the year of manufacture is shown as 1991, so they put it on an 'H' - it should be 'J' for post August 1991.

The car sounds like the one that Matt saw, as the owner confirmed buying it for £21K two years ago, and had concerns himself about it. He has had it looked at by 9M who were happy with it.

Perhaps it is an early car from a motorshow etc. Lets hope it is, as it is interesting to try to trace history etc., but alas I do not have the opportunity to buy now in any event.

Cannot run to the £30K price for one of these beauties, so enjoy them and perhaps I'll get to passenger with one of you at a track day !!!

Porsche GB would not (quite rightly) confirm any info to me given the vin and engine number. If Melv would like the VIN to do any research with, then e-mail me offline.

Thanks,
