Interesting pics on sill corrosion.

Apologies if you've seen these before but some may find them interesting or maybe gut wrenching.

yeah reminds me of when I went to visit my car half way through the sills being done, it looked appauling. They did a good job though, you'd struggle to tell now
 
The really sad thing is twofold:
1) On many cars the corrosion will be much worse then ppl think, in particular the underseal and paint is so thick it hides the rot really well. My 968 which looked perfect and had only a small amount of rust on the inside of the rear quarter sill area is currently undergoing work.
2) On the vast majority of cars it pretty much only seems to be these areas, the bottoms of the front wings and edges of the rear arches. I remember seeing my race car donor shell after it came back from the acid dip and apart from those areas the rest of the shell was perfect, I understand that my old S2 shell which had visible corrosion on it was much the same. Certainly after being stripped bare every other part of the shell looked no different from new apart from those areas (and a touch up around the top of the front arches near the A pillar but this cleans up easily).

Believe it or not but these are seriously solid cars, the best designed and built body shell I have seen for sure and by some margin, its just a shame they have this flaw which is coming home to roost now. If it was more modern those areas would have been boxed off behind plastic and both vertical and horizontal drain holes in the end of the sill rear quarter area as opposed to the flawed design of only a horizontal drain hole.

 
Oddly my 85 early dash lux is almost perfect when looking inside the B pillars, my old S2 was rotten and the 968 I'm buying at the moment has some early surface corrosion although hopefully nothing too serious. Unfortuneately I didn't inspect the rear suspension mounts on the 968 and its now giving me nightmares, probably unnecessarily, until I pick it up.

Working on my car this weekend I have spent more time underneath than in the past - also took off the front wheel arch plastics both sides. Urrgggh - bottom of wings are all fibreglass and the black plastics were held on with litres of silicon sealant or similar.

I think I may be in for a similar extent of repair - although its clear my sills have been patched in the past I don't know whether those patches will have really addressed the issue.

So how much did that kind of repair cost? - Did you get the whole car resprayed afterwards or just up to the top of the stonechip level?
