Interior and instrument light question

I've just noticed a couple of things on my '04 turbo - if I unlock the doors, the orientation/mood led lights at the driver's door handle and at the rear view mirror come on regardless if the interior is switched on or not which is sensible enough. However they seem to stay on for up to an hour after I close the door and leave the car unlocked. They extinguish immediately when I lock it.
Also when I turn on the headlights, the dial lights seem to take another 5 seconds or so before they come on. I don't remember my pre-facelift car doing this. Is is the same on other facelift cars or turbos?

I have an '04 Turbo and mine does exactly the same as yours. I first noticed it when I tried it with the garage door closed one day. Now I'm aware of it, I always lock the car in case of draining the battery.

Good to know. What about the instrument and dial lights when you turn on the headlights? I suspect mine is playing up as this morning when the headlights was turned on, it took 30 seconds before the dials lit up. When I stopped the car and tried it, they came on immediately.

Mine is a much earlier model of course, but when I close the door the interior lights stay on for about two minutes and then fade to off. The dashboard lights come on as soon as I turn the exterior lights on, as they should do. Sounds like you may have a dicky light switch.

Thought as much. Diagnostics did not reveal any faults. Will change the light switch first. The leds stay on over an hour if the doors are left unlocked. Will try timing it tonight to see how long they actually stay on

The delay in the instrument cluster lights coming on happened to my facelift C4 and was swiftly cured with a replacement light switch.

Mines older too, but the light and dials stay lit up and then after a few mins they go off, and the car locks itself.

However, if I pull the key out and don't open the door, the lights stay on - I suppose the switch on the door hasn't picked up me getting out of the vehicle and so it stays on. I didn't test how long but I was sat waiting for my wife somewhere for about 10-15 mins and they stayed lit up.

I've got no idea whatsoever if this has any bearing on your issue, but could it perhaps be a faulty sensor or switch on the door (perhaps not grounding properly, if they even have one?).

Just a thought. Only thought I would mention as I have had a faulty switch or poor grounding on other cars at the door swtich and had similar issues, but I don't know the 911 well enough to say if it even has one (haven't had the cause to look for one yet).

Cheers,

I can't see no reason for the lights staying on for up to an hour, even if it's not a fault. I don't have a facelift car so I don't know what possibilities you have to re-program different light settings, but I know that a Porsche Center will be able to plug in and do it for you.
