Interior Colour Change

The exterior of my car is black and the interior is black/ linen. I would like to make the whole interior black but was wondering if this would have a detrimental effect on the vehicles value (with particular relevance to the vehicles originality).

When buying a classic car we are always told to look out for condition rather than colour, so we can assume not all owners have their 'ideal' car.

Hi Muzzer,

I think your interior looks pretty good as it is. My day car is a BMW X5..all black inside including headlining and the windows and the carpets, dash, and its "too dark". Can be a bit overwhelming.
Your choice, but with a classic car I think originality is important to many people, so if I were you, I would do what you want, BUT keep the original parts so it can be returned to original spec if needed, or you regret it and have a change of heart.
Just my opinion for what it's worth
regards
Graham

Thanks, but I must pass on your kind offer..I will stick with my mahogany leather jobs...black is so common, and the ones with red piping?
Having said that, in the early 80's I had a Black Scirocco GTI with a bright red cloth interior[] and I thought that was cool, then a white XR3i....cringe, then a Red XR 4X4! OMG!

Sounds like you were abit of a boy racer before you bought your 911, mind you I owned a VW scirocco mk1 storm once plus a few other cars I would rarther not say which, so I cant talk but that was before I saved up my hard erned cash to buy my 84 911 Carrera. Speeking of saving up for a 911 has anyone seen the advert on E,bay item No 4560399055 of someone asking for donations to buy his Porsche 911 dream car check it out, what a cheek[8D]

OK guys, I can understand you taking the p**S because I had a white XRi but it was in 1987, and that was by no means my most embarassing car..that honour belongs to my first company car.....wait for it, a new 1978, Orange with black velour interior, and a radiomobile mono radio, and chrome hub caps which used to fly off under heavy braking, oh and it would use 5 litres of oil to a tank of fuel.....anyone guess what it was?

Greg, you are spot bollo*k on that one, well done, but I did make it easy. It was the worst car I have ever had, a total nightmare. The hub cap issue was a real problem, as the bloody things would just come off...the worst occassion being in Winchester. I came around a corner and was confronted by a set of red traffic lights so I stopped (as one does) in a gentle controlled manner. Problem 1, one of the hub caps came off and shot across the junction.
Problem 2. Crossing the junction was a convoy including Police cars and motorcycle outriders , and a High Court Judge who were involved in a major IRA trial at Winchester Crown Court.
Problem 3. it hit one of the motorbikes following the convoy.

I had an appointment and guess what..........I was late after a full document check and search, etc etc, and I still didn't get the cap back).
I had the car for about 2 months and then God smiled on me and promoted my boss, so I took over his job and got an upgraded car Ford Cortina1600 GL MK4 , and my life suddenly became good again.
The Allegro was returned to Head Office and I have no idea what happened to it after that, but it goes down as my worst ever car ever, and I have had some dogs.
This prompted me to do a list of all the cars I've ever had,
Austin Mini 850 (started green and ended up black)
Morris Mini Cooper (but it had an FG front)
Ford Cortina MK 1 (1300?) (smoking dog)
Ford Cortina Mk1 GT 1500 (great fun)
Morris 1100 (bought a house and had to be sensible )
Austin Allegro First free car but (the worst car ever had)
Ford Cortina 1600GL MK4
Alfa Romeo 1.6Ti Alfa Sud (brilliant car to drive)
Ford Fiesa 1.1L (company I worked for went bust and this was better than nothing)
Triumph Spitfire 1300 (for the wife and to avoid having to be seen in the Fiesta)
MGBGT (again for the wife, to replace the Spit)
VW Scirocco 1600 GLS (set up own business and could have what I wanted...easy to get big overdraft facilities then)
VW Scirocco 1800 GTi Black with red interior. (the business then and still would look good to-day)
Ford Escort XR3i White(God knows why I did this one, but seemed like a good idea at the time)
Ford Sierra 2.9 XR4X4i (couldn't afford a Cosworth in 1989)
Mitsubishi Shogun 2.5 TDi (big bugger with all the bits and hey I had kids now and it was great)
Mercedes 280C Sport (all the bits and some ,Silver of course)
Jaguar S Type 3.0SE (great styling then , but wish I had got a type R)
BMW 3.0i X5 Sport (Great bit of kit and still got it)
and of course the P Car!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
End of stroll down memory lane...better do some work
regards
G
