Interior Demister Not Working....

Chaps, late '81 SC Coupe and I cannot get the interior demister fan to work. I checked the relevant fuse and even the white interior fan warning light comes on when I move the right hand lever across. I also unbolted the cardboard bulkhead shield under the luggage lid just in case I could see something obvious with the heater box assembly. The heater itself works just fine, as usual.

Anyone have any ideas ?

Thanks in advance,

Nick.

I just had to have this fan's motor replaced in my 81 SC - it had totally fused. I didn't have any luck calling around breaker's yards etc., but the good news was I managed to source a new one from a firm up near Birmingham. It was a generic Bosch part, not a Porsche one, so it was a very reasonable £60 or so. What you get is the internals of the motor, which annoyed the vehicle electrician I was using a bit, because he probably had to undo a few screws and swap the rotor etc.

Bad news is I've forgotten the name of the firm, and the fan sounds like it's from an F15 with full after-burners on. (Well, I exaggerate a little there.) I remember Googling for the Porsche part number though? If you have no luck elsewhere, I can prob. look it up in bank statements etc.

I think the OPC wanted £400 plus, but I think you get the whole casing etc. for that.

(I think the heater is blown from a fan in the Engine bay - this ones just for fresh air, as far as I know)

Excluding aircon there are two blowers. The fresh air blower is located at the front behind the dash and blows cold air which it takes from outside, there is a little grill under the windscreen which is the intake for this blower. There is also a hot air blower which is located in the engine bay. Air is mixed from these blowers according to the position of the heater and vent controls. It sounds as if the fresh air blower has died.

my demister motor went a few months ago. brought a replacement on the ebay from rcsmotorsport for £55 including postage. Fully expected it not to work when it came but fitted it today and away we went - demist heaven.
If you need details for the part give me a call and i might be able to get one from rcs for you.

Thanks Elliot, just purchased a new motor from Europarts, so will hopefully have clear windows from next week on !

Thanks to all.

Cheers, Nick.
