Interior Door Handle Bowden Cable

Hi Guys

Was met with a lovely pinging sound yesterday when trying to exit the car. After removing the door card I could see the little hook at the handle end of the Bowden cable had pinged off.

I was able to reconnect it in a very Heath Robinson manner with a little electrical cable block. It seems ok for now but doubt it will be a permanent solution!

I've saw 2nd hand on ebay for £15, cable likely be as old as my own however but at least intact! Couple of questions, anyone fitted one? It looked ball-ache at the door latch end to get to and replace. And a part number/OPC price please for those of you PET enabled. Looks to be same cable both sides.

Cheers

Stuart

Hi Stuart,

The good news - part number is 477837017A

The bad news - £64.99 inc VAT!!!

I did a quick google in case anyone was making a pattern part but nothing came up in the search...

Thanks David. Let's see how long the Heath Robinson repair lasts for!

I think with a problem at the handle end, there is quite a bit of space and scope to be creative and find a lasting solution. I think looping a bit of wire through the handle hole where the hook goes, possibly twin core speaker wire or similar, and crimping that on to the cable, would be more than good enough and sturdy enough.

So far so good for the Heath Robinson repair. Purchased a £15 delivered 2nd hand cable which I will store for when needed.
