Interior Floor Trim - Warning

My carpet floor trim has been looking a bit tired and I thought I would remove to give a thorough clean. Scrubbing brush and washing detergent did not seem to work so I thought I would risk a warm wash in the washing machine delicate cycle..................Oops not a good idea.

The liner carpet has shred its backing of underlay to reveal straight hessian sack type backing and the rubber backed overmats have delaminated from their carpet. They are however very clean albeit no use for a car.

Lucky I trialled it with the rear carpets. The front can stay grubby until I source a new interior trim. Any suggestions on a good supplier of fitted interior carpets and any suggestions on a good installer in Scotland OR is it an easy DIY task ?

Regards

There is an article on this on the superb Pelican Parts website:

http://www.pelicanparts.com/techarticles/911_interior_restoration/main2.htm

It doesnt look too difficult a DIY job, although I havent tried it myself [;)]

I have had all my carpet replaced by Southbound, including the door bins. only the 4 floor mats are removeable, the rest is 'fitted' by means of glue!

As my front two mats were worn out (no overmats had been used), I had Southbound replace them whilst doing another job for me. BEWARE...once you have put down the new 4 mats, it makes the rest look s**t...therefore I booked the car in for the rest to be replaced.

The 4 mats were about £150, the supply and fit of the 'rest' was another £600.00!!

So all your carpets and the four floor mats came to £750 all in? That seems quite reasonable to me. I'm tempted to get my carpets replaced now. Does it make much of a difference to the interior?

Would post photos...but have got flu...too cold to go in the garage with the camera!

I have pulled out the receipts though......not quite as cheap as I said...total came to £887.00 plus Vat, included the door bins being re covered too.

Your car being a targa like mine, might also need to have the door bins replaced, as over the years damp is sucked into them, and they are fibre based. I had this done with fibreglass ones for an additional £223.00 plus Vat.
