Interior Improvements

Morning all, I trust everyone had a good Christmas?

I was thinking of treating my Carrera to some new interior bits and pieces and wonder if anyone had any experience of these.

Firstly, the original steering wheel has some peeled leather and I quite fancy a new 3 spoke RS style wheel. Are they easy to fit? Alternatively, can new / refurbished original style wheels still be found?

Secondly, a new gearknob, handbrake handle and leather boots for both. There seems to be such a wide range to chosse from, either original or a more up to date look. Are these easy to fit?

Thanks and enjoy the New Year!

Not sure about the steering wheel, although I have seen ads in Porsche World/911 with companies supplying leather retrim parts, or offer a supply & fit service.

For the gearlever and handbrake, I can recommend Prestige Parts, with a variety of styles and leather colours available, I replaced both gearlever and handbrake gaiters, which I found easy to fit.

Good luck & Happy New Year

Check out Simon Davidson at Essential Styling - I bought a 964 RS steering wheel from him in a matching colour and with the correct boss.
I second Alan's recommendation on Prestige Parts. They did me a replacement gearknob at a good price exchanging it with the old one.

Hi Les
I too fitted an aftermarket wheel and gearknob, both Momo items.Just make sure you have the original wheel at EXACTLY 12 o clock when you remove it and fit your new one.Unfortunately for me the new boss adaptor was half a spline out compared with the original! This has to be corrected via the tie rod ends[&:]
As for the gearknob you need to prise out the top and undo the allen bolt beneath to remove it.On 84 to 86 models a 15mm open ended spanner placed over the stick and tapped from below with a light hammer should remove the knob. Most aftermarket knobs are secured with a grubscrewed collar and come with adaptor sleeves to ensure a good fit.If your gearstick is chipped/scratched as mine was then before fitting the knob, cut to size (slightly longer) some large bore heat shrink tube and apply with heatgun/hairdrier.looks great especially after a quick rub with some Armorall or equivalent.

3 Spoke RS wheel looks lovely and feels so much better as well.

I got it from Design911 and it came with instructions. It was very easy to fit.

All the interior goodies are very easy to fit and are all relatively self explanatory once you start probing around.
Lots of places sell all sorts of the same stuff and are always pretty equally matched on price.

The real question is: Do you keep the car looking stock (better for re-sale) or cutomise to suit your own taste.

I have kept all the old parts - however tatty - to pass on with the car

If you want to stay original, you can buy my original wheel for a lot less than the numbers floating about above.
