Interior lights

I have just bought a 944 turbo and everthing is in very good condition. However neither the rear trunk light or under bonnet lights work. The bulbs are both OK. Could soemone advise where the operating micro switches for these 2 lights are located. Taking the trunk light apart - I have power to the light, but no earth, permament or from the microswitch. Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks.

The boot light operates from the RHS tailgate strut - there is a terminal there connected to the metal part of the strut.
The bonnet light only works when the headlights are on.
Hope this helps.

Thanks very much. The spring contact on the gas strut was retensioned and interior light now works !

The switches aren't illuminated ahead of the gearlever. I mounted a dim LED below the radio to cast some light onto the switches, there don't seem to be any other solutions unfortunately.
If by dim lighting you mean the illumination of the dials this is a fairly common problem. The gauges are illuminated by three bulbs at the base of the rear of the gauge pod, and the light is transferred to the base of the front by three perspex prizms. Over time the silver coating flakes off or dulls & less light makes it to the front. There are a few solutions, I used tinfoil & sellotape with some success. You need to remove the gauge pod to fix this, it's not all that hard to to with the steering wheel in place but it'll be much easier to access if you remove the wheel first.

There are specialized kits available to replace the old tarnished instrument illumination with LEDs. Have a look at this old thread, which has all the details and contact links.
