Interior Lights

I have had this problem ever since I got the car, that is that the interior lights do not come on when the door is opened.

Both engine bay and storage lights come on and the buzzer sounds if the key is left in the ignition. I have removed both push pins in the doors and cleaned them but had no success.

Have now been told that it may be due to a faulty relay, thing is I have searched and cannot find it.

Can anybody tell me where it is or if that is not the problem how to get the lights to come on when the door is opened.

Thanks

mine did that... bulbs prob' needs changing.. but a short quick tap (or WACK!) normally solves the problem !

Both the interior lights have three possible positions. I cannot remember the exact sequence but if you press down on say the left end then lights will not come on when the door is opened. if you press down on the right end then lights will stay on all the time. if the light is level i.e. not down at either left or right end then the lights will come on when the door is opened. I think both lights have to be in the level position for door opening but I am not sure on this point.

As I said not sure of the exact sequence just experiment to find the correct setting for what you want.

They work in the on position, but not in the level position, that was why I was looking for the relay.

Mine does it occasionally(more off than on) on drivers door only. Wondered if it was the switch in the door but haven't had chance to take it apart yet.

Just to confuse matters, they both came on in the flat position.

Maybe I should just turn them off!

The interior lights come on with the door with the switch in the back position in my car- I expected it to be in the flat position.

My first mail on this subject was done from memory. I have now spent a little time sitting in the car playing about and my situation is as follows:

Both light lens set in the mid position both lights come on when door is opened. When door is closed they stay on for about 20 secs then go off (time delay).

If front direction of lens is down, then lights will stay on all the time. If rear direction is down then lights do not come on at all, even when door is opened.

Perhaps some cars are different although that is not really logical.

Mine is a 1998 car

Have now been running with them in the flat position and when I go round corners they sometimes come on.

Any ideas?

Sorry, can't help.
Could try going faster round corners so you don't notice the lights coming on.
