Intermediate Rear Shaft Bearing

I have a Carrera 2 on a 53 plate, 29,000 miles, full porsche service history, just out of warranty, jan this year and my intermediate rear shaft bearing has just gone. Obviously Porsche dont want to know about this, anyone got any comments on this, is this something that Porsche should still have a responsibility for.

Yes they damn well should. This is a well known fault, which Porsche have attempted to rectify with redesign of shaft, drive chain wheel and bearing. See the Boxster forum for an identicle failure on an out of warranty low mileage engine, which Porsche replaced completely free of charge (good will gesture). This is another example of extremely unfair response to different customers for the same issues.

Hello

Sorry to hear of your sad predicament - as mentioned, this is a rare but known problem, see the Boxster forum.

I also know of someone who was on their way to Porsche Germany when theirs (996 4S) gave way in France. The car was trucked to Porsche in Germany, they looked at the fully stamped OPC service book and fitted a new engine FOC, which was very good service.

Try speaking to the dealer principal at your OPC citing these examples and asking if the same level of goodwill could be extended to you car, and if not, why not in writing.

If no joy, go higher to Porsche Cars GB and make it clear you will be contacting Porsche AG in Germany direct.

If that didn't work, I would place the car on my drive with a sign on the front stating that the engine was broken due to a fault and Porsche (and your local garage) would not help.[:'(]

Might get their attention, but I would recommend the softly softly reasonable approach first!![;)]

I hope it is resolved for you very soon.

Also one unhappy 4S owner 8,000 careful miles in 2 years. Does not inspire confidence when one month after a service, having already replaced the RMS and PCM being told today my intermediate rear shaft bearing has gone, requiring a new engine, which was out of warranty this April. No question that they would not replace although thankfully I did purchase the extended warranty.

My car had a new engine under warranty in its first year due to the shaft at around 7K miles (by the previous owner) and I only found out by reading his posting on this forum!

If anyone asks when selling (why the engine number has been changed in the service book) you can mentioned that it was because of the intermediate shaft (which together with RMS is not a rarity on these cars) and add that they are buying an xxx mileage car with an engine only done yyy miles, surely that is a good thing!

oh, make sure the engine number is changed on your DVLA docs too.
