Intermediate shaft

I've tried doing a search for this, but got no matches here. Wondered if you could help a friend of mine who has a 2003 S with FOPCSH. He had engine failure when going along at 40mph - been told that it is the intermediate shaft which caused this and needs new engine. He bought the car from a Porsche specialist less than a year ago, though has been serviced at local OPC throughout. There was not an extended warranty and he is not clear if the specialist would automatically provide a warranty (any ideas?).

OPC is looking into a good will claim, though he is unsure of how common this is and hence how hard he should push for compensation, hopefully avoiding the costly option of a new engine/labour.

Any advice would be much appreciated (I'm thinking about taking out a warranty now!).

Many thanks,
Nick

Pete has beaten me to you it with the link to my recent intermediate shaft failure and the subsequent goodwill replacement of the engine by Porsche. I hope your friend has similar success. That makes at least two 2003 Boxsters with this problem.

Make that three! My engine was replace as a result of the Intermediate shaft failure at some 7K miles in the first year. Of course the previous owner did not tell me this, I found out from the history of his forum postings [;)]
