Hi everyone,

pushing on up the M11 thismorning, came up on some slower moving cars applied brakes and no servo!!! Can report not much happens without function servo apart from a trip to the launderette! Intermittant for the next half hour, parked up for 10 mins and seems to be behaving now....any ideas or should I just take straight round to dealer?

Early 996 and Boxsters suffered from the seal on the brake servo splitting, and it filling with water. It sounds like it might have happened to yours. I would get it looked at as soon as possible.

Edit : There was a Technical Bulletin issued about it: "11/01 - 4470 - Brake Booster Seal at Firewall, Changed". If you would like details, drop me an email. However, if the servo is badly rusted inside, which is common, it will need a new servo, rather than just replacing the seal.

Hi Richard,

thanks for quick response and clarification.....thogught it must have been a leaky seal or something, any idea how much to fix?

Interesting thread. Then we first got our Turbo both my wife and I thought the initial bite of the brakes was not as good as the 06 Astra estate we use to lug the family. The brakes themselves on the Turbo feel strong but need more pedal pressure than the Astra. Could this be a leaking servo too? Is there an easy way to check? I asked the dealer to look into it but he said that was how they are supposed to be.

What you describe is perfectly normal. Porsche don't "over servo" their brakes, to give more feel. I always put Mrs H through the screen when I drive her Civic!

The seal was redesigned long before the Turbo was introduced.
