Intermittent Alarm Fault!

Does anyone have any experience with this problem?

The factory fit alarm goes off intermittently. Once turned off the car will not lock propertly and the window of the drivers door remains slightly down, as if the door is still slightly open.

Of course when I take it to the Porsche dealer everything works fine.

Any ideas would be very much appreciated

David

If you have a warranty take it to your OPC and have them check out the control unit by hooking up your car to the PST2/PIWIS tester. On a US car the control unit is under the drivers seat.

The reason the alarm went off is stored in the control unit and they can find out why it went off. This control unit is also for the door locks and windows. My guess is that you have a problem with the control unit. Jeff

I had a similar problem with my 996, and it turned out to be the door lock mechanism. One of the microswitches inside it had stuck, and the car would only lock on the emergency setting. Tool Pants is right - my IPS plugged in his PST2 and it showed up on the fault register straight away. The fault register will record the fault until it is cleared, so your OPC should be able to pick it up easily enough. All it took was a new door lock at £150 to put it right!

Thanks to both Richard and 'Tool Pants' - my IPS has the car and hopefully he'll be able to correct the fault.
