Intermittent Horn

I have recently inherited a 1979 SC Targa from my father. Drives and performs beautifully. Only problem is that the horn doesn't seem to work first thing at start up. After a few miles - no problem. My father told me that he has had this problem for the past 15 years and never got to the bottom of it. Each time he took it to be investigated, it was working by the time he got it to the garage!
Has anyone else comes across this before, or have any ideas?

Quite possibly the horn connector in the wheel.

To keep the connection while the wheel turns there is a connector which rotates around a ring in the wheel - either the connector or the ring can build up corrosion. Rotating the wheel a few times when driving helps to clean the ring or connector as it they move on each other which may be why it improves after a short while.

Targas have a reputation for dampness and that may have resulted in the problem particularly if used infrequently. Take the wheel off and clean both - the nature of the connection is obvious when the wheel comes off - worth a try (and no cost).
