Intermittent noise

I have been having problems with my 911 turbo Reg 2001, to start it had a intermittent noise coming from the engine over my left shoulder this continued on and off for some time, it sounded like a slipping belt but not very loud but very annoying, this then progressed one day suddenly to a very loud rushing of air and lose of power and stunted acceleration this was also accompanied by warning lights on dashboard (PSM,ABS, and rear spoiler ? ). I send car in to Porsche specialist for its yearly service and fix faults, service charge £230.48 not bad i thought, but he comes back and says you need a new air flow meter, auxiliary belt and a boost sensor!£660! pounds later get car back, only to drive down road and find I still have noise and lack of power plus lights on dash, car goes back for further investigation I am then told that the air hose going to the turbo had come loose and leaking air under pressure, car goes back again and hose is refitted, collect car and still have noise, lights on dash and lack of power! car goes back then told that the air hose has a split and i need a new hose, car retained by garage for new air hose, get bill for £372.56 i have to say that at this point i went ballistic, still had to pay after prolonged assault on garage owner. have power back now but still have noise now and then and spoiler warning light coming on, spoilers working ok? anyone have any ideas to source of noise and the reason the spoiler warning light keeps coming on?[&:]

The original symptoms sound just like the intercooler pipe(s) coming loose presume thats what they mean by air hose. Have they checked both are clamped on correctly not easy to access and only when the engines cold, where about are you in the country and which specialist are you using.

The noise may be a faulty spoiler motor, I should check all the connections and that nothings loose.

PS your specialist should have put the bosch hammer on the car to analyse some of these faukts

When diagnosing the fault, IMHO, the split hose was the first thing that should have been repaired as I am fairly sure the other items (apart from belt) could be affected and appear there was a fault. I wouldn't have much faith in this "specialist" after this level of incompetence resulting in so many visits, never mind the repair costs. Don't they test drive the car before handing it back??

thanks for your reply been away a few weeks so only just caught up with things, car still making strange noise now and then mostly when cold and then sometimes when being pressed hard.
found that the rear spoiler is leaking oil from left cylinder, very little, will that make the warning light come on ? pms and abs lights came on the other week but not since all in all most frustrating will have to do what i should have done in the first place and send it in to a main dealer not some so called rip-off Porsche specialist! no names but located in peterborough area.

Sounds like time to switch garages and use one reccomended on here.

abs + psm lights sounds like an electrical fault as I can't see any technical connection between them and the split hose (or a spoiler fault). The check engine light though should have come on when you had the air leak.

You should also threaten (and actually go) to the small claims for the boost sensor and the flow meter as its obvious they assumed they were the fault initially (would give similar symptoms) and changed probably healthy units (what's the bet that these have now been fitted to another car as new units !).
