Intermittent rear wiper

I imagine it can't be too hard to modify the rear wash wipe to be intermittent rather than just on. Most cars seem to be on for a 3 or 4 wipes and then every so often.
So would that be done at the motor end or the switch end?
Anyone done it before?

Wouldn't it be a relay of some sort? I have no idea specifically what would be required, but that'd be it I guess...

One of the mods I've idly mused over while standing outside buildings (smoking) is that you could fit a bee-sting arial like a 968 has, but use the parts from a Vauxhall Astra (or similar) which has the rear washer built into the back of the arial base to give a rear wash/wipe function to a 944/968.

I think if I had a 968 with a bee-sting already I might consider it more seriously.

When you flick the switch off the wiper still returns to the parked position so I would build a small logic circuit that sends a short half second pulse every 5 seconds or so. Am sure you could find the space to splice it into the wiring behind the switch panel. You could probably do it with a chip to generate a clock pulse at 1 second intervals and a chip to count the pulses, connect the motor wires to the right pins so that it fires on every fifth pulse and you're away. Maplins or RS will be your friend.

There would be many ways of doing it. Simplest would be to fit an intermittant relay with the same base pattern in place of the existing rear wipe relay. In fact, I have one from a Vauxhall astra sitting on my desk, as a project for when-I-get-'round-to-it (kindly posted to me by someone on here - Ian/Xenon, I believe.)

Snag is that the parts for the rear wiper are supposed to be no longer available, and therefore I use mine very sparingly. I am told that there is a (mythical, perhaps) gear in there that strips rather easily and that will render the whole lot useless.
