Intermittent trunk release issue on '04 996 TT

Evening all! For the past few months I've randomly had issues with opening the trunk. It works perfectly and then after using the car for the day it starts playing up. I try from key fob and interior release button and can hear the mechanism but it won't release. I can lock and unlock fine but the trunk release just won't work. I've realised that if I leave it for thirty minutes or so and try it works perfectly. Is this a known common fault?

My two thoughts are (1) the solenoid is on the way out, or (2) simply from the summer heat retarding the solenoid (compounded by car being black) and once it cools down once parked in shade it works again as normal... random I know, but can't think why else this would happen.

Any thoughts / explanations are welcome! Thanks all, John.
