Intermittent wipers

.... or not, in fact. OK, here's a stupid one to think about.

Driving home from having new windscreen fitted [], patchy rain, I've got the wipers on intermittent. All working fine, a sweep every few seconds, everythings behaving, life is good (windscreen aside) etc.etc.

Then the damn things start wiping permanently. Well, I think, I don't remember changing them over to full wipe - must be getting senile. But no, they've decided the intermittent setting ain't going to play today.

Any thoughts? What's very puzzling (or clever) is that if I switch them onto intermittent just after they've done a normal wipe they actually wait the usual few seconds before wiping, but then keep on going continuously. So wherever the timer is, it seems to be working in some fashion.

It's hardly the end of the world, but I knew you'd all like a technical challenge.

cheers ............. Phil

As for the windscreen that's a really stupid event, and if I get enough requests to hear it, I'll post it. there is a lesson for you all in it.....

my wipers have stopped working intermittently a long time ago, mind u the motor stopped working all together, and i had it reconditioned at a place in bloxwich. And since then no intermittent.[:'(]

Mind u i guess its better than hanging out the window and drying with a cloth on a rainy day.

i guess its just where and tear on the armature and bushes, or the relay maybe alittle worse for where ?

Marc

Ps your wheels look good blacked out [:D]

Thanks Marc, it's not the end of the world, so I'll probably live with it - if I try and fix it I've no doubt I'll end up with no electrics at all [:(]

The wheels are 7" teledials (off a 944S), painted Graphite Grey (very dark). A recent fitting - here's a better pic, with a couple more to follow...

cheers ............ Phil

The problem from what I can gather (regarding wipers) is caused by worn or dirty wiper stalks contact points. My wipers sometimes creep along the screen, but usually switching them on and off a few times cures it for me.

Hey Phil, I like the wheels [:)]

Re the wipers. when I had problems with mine I pulled the relay so now I have no intermittent and no park for the wipers, but I do have full control!

Re the wheels. Did you have to change the spacers to get the 944 wheels in, I thought the offsets were different (944 vs 924S) Nice job though~!

Obviously the shame of being mentioned on the forum did the trick, as I took the car out yesterday and they're working fine [:)]

The wheels went straight on. They are 7x15 ET52.3 and they're fine as they are. I thought the fronts might be a problem as the original Goodyear Eagle 195/65's came right out to the wheelarches, but these tyres (Yokohama A520 205/60x15) aren't much wider. They have a much squarer shoulder which actually looks and sits a lot better. Handling feels great.

Car needs lowering now though, don't you think?

Phil

oh yes

you must lower, it makes such a difference to the drive and handling of the car, it looks better too[;)]
