Introducing myself.....

Hi everyone,

I sold my 993 after 13 glorious years a couple of months back. Prior to that I had a 911 SC coupe which was a nice car.

I cannot get rid of the Porsche bug, nor the "older classic" car thing.... So I am hoping that next year I can come back into the fold...

But what to buy? I am not a 911 air cooled bore, the early 996 has its merits and is "cheap" now, the 986 Boxster is a great car... I have always wanted to own a V8 at some stage, and so here I am. Having done a little research, the 928 sould probably fit all of my criterias, but I would like to get some more information. I know the 911 spectrum but I am not really familiar with the 928 range. For example I was reading that there are "analogue and digital" dashboards....?

Anyway, I just wanted to say hello, and I hope you wont mind any daft question I have over the next few months about these great cars...!

Hi JP,
worth having a look round at a few, there's quite a variation between '78 and '96 cars.
Prices vary as does condition, don't be too scared of high milers. Well looked after daily drivers
can be a good find, low mileage stored cars with poor coolant history can be unreliable.

Fuel economy isn't too bad, i get around 17 zipping about locally, 27mpg max on slow boring motorway, just about 20mpg
at 120mph on cruise control in Germany.

Spares can be reasonable, there's a lot of 928s in USA so cheap parts can be imported. Personally i've used scrappies a lot.

The car is big and comfortable, i've done 1000 miles in a day in mine with no aches of pains.
As you get used to driving them i found the car starts to feel lighter and you get more confidence with flooring the accelerator.
Cornering is more stable than the 911 derivatives and high speeds feel very safe as the car is designed to cruise the autobahn all day
long. Had 160 out of mine and it was totally relaxed, a friend has seen 185 on the speedo and it felt fine.
(Don't be tempted to try this in uk, the other drivers are not trained to expect anyone to appear that suddenly.)

Try a few out to see which version you like, prices won't move very quick and some good condition cars go really cheap.
There is a vast network of support worldwide on the web and a few specialists here and in USA.

Thank you for that, it is great information. One reason it was time to move on from my 993 was that it is so uncomfortable after a couple of hours on the motorway. I want a proper GT car, hence the 928 is a good option.

I shall be looking around in earnest soon...
