Hi

Since this is almost my first post here I thought I'd introduce myself. My wife and I have a Boxster S (its hers really) which we've owned since new in August 2001. Its used all year round as a daily driver (hard top on this time of year). It went to Tuscany in its first summer (having the roof slashed en route) and last year did a 4,000 mile tour round the alps and Germany, taking in Munich Oktoberfest and the Nurburgring [:D]. We went for sport suspension expecting to use the car a lot on the track but apart from 50-odd laps at the ring it hasn't worked out that way. Poor service from the local OPC has started to take the shine of ownership, but it still puts a smile on my face every time I drive it.

Hi Martin .... It's a shame that the car so easily out performs a lot of the OPC's here in ROBville Rip Off Britain [:)] But as you say every journey can restore ones faith to continue the relationship. I would hate to go back to the early 1990's when even OPC were going bust! but the service and attitude during those tough times was really up to speed.

Unfortunately product success, very much lead by the Boxsters brilliance,
has meant arrogance and 3rd rate service at first class prices is the rule by which OPC's now live [8|]

Anyway welcome onboard
 
not all OPC are like that.it might be worth shopping around.

I avoid OPC (merlin)Nottingham because of poor attitude from the staff. but have received great service from OPC sutton coldfield (wh funnily anough is owned by the same parent company)who go out of their way to make sure im happy. as its a bit of a long way for me they come and collect my car and return it to me at no extra charge.

OPC swindon (even further away) also offered me this service.

Welcome! Lovely car. And you the longer you drive it, the more you appreciate its qualities. I've had mine for 18 months and its as exciting to drive now as it was the day I collected it.
 
That's good to know, after only a week and two days and I like driving it more and more each time I take it out!

After 5 examples since its launch way back in 1996! I still find it a thrill to drive each time I start and go [;)] for me its the perfect Porsche in every fashion so maybe 12 years from now you will feel the same :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Completely different to the 930, the Turbo is raw in comparison - heavy steering, heavy brakes, tramlines down virtually every road, not much until 3000 rpm, then it's like you just pressed the afterburner! To be honest you can't really compare them that much, the 930 is incredible to drive, very thrilling but you wouldn't really want to drive it every day. The Boxster feels refined in comparison.

I've had my "cooking" 2.7 Boxster for 4 months & I love it.Move from a Caterham into a new Elise, Then tried the Elise SC but saw the light[:)] and bought a Sept 07 Boxster which I'm beginning to get to grips with[;)]

How do you find the "cooking" version as it seems to me with 245bhp it should be almost as quick as an older S, although nothing like the currrent 3.4 S.
I tried a Boxster and Cayman S and loved the power but was told by several dealers that the basic version is quick enough and not worth the extra cost. As mine is new I can't tell until its run in, I recognise you have to rev it more and it is slower off the mark due to the lower torque but at over 2k seems to pick up quick enough.
Interested to hear your views.
 
I've only had short drives in the latest 'S' and Cayman and yes, compared to my 2000 Boxster S, they are faster but the difference is marginal in everyday driving.
The big plus point of the Boxster is that the power available is easily used to the full, due to the superb handling. My previous car was a 964 3.6 with similar power, which was exciting in the same way that patting a tiger on the head is exciting - you know its going to bite back at some time. I had so many near misses with that car where as in the Boxster I can tear into bends and brake so late and always get away with it.
A Boxster owning friend of mine maintains that a Boxster flatters your driving abilities while a 911 highlights youir weaknesses.

sbloxxy, Your mate is quiet right. A further point also is if you had any sense you wouldn't pat a tiger on the head ! you would treat it with the respect that it deserves!! [;)] enjoy your ride
 
I suppose another way of looking at it is that the joy of a 911 is mastering the car and being able to drive it quickly while understanding the true meaning of 'ideal weight distrubution'! I found a couple of track days helped no end but I remember being chased by a Boxster around Croft: I was trying so hard and the he looked like he was out for a Sunday drive. Loved my 911 to bits and still miss it even now but the Boxster is just so much more civilised.

I knew someone would mention the lawnmower, figured it might be you Rich :)

Haven't driven the Speed Yellow machine yet, but I've taken to using it as a seat when it's parked in the garage when the old fella's working on my car!

Yeh, I think the Le Mans trip just tipped me over the edge monsieurrrrrrrrrrr!
 
Welcome James. These are awesome cars, I get a smirk every time I drive mine! I've nearly done 1000 miles in mine and have kept the revs below 4000 rpm for running in, can't wait to flex her muscles!

Thanks jpbecker, I can't say I've managed to keep mine under 4000 rpm yet, but mine's well and truly run in!
