iPhone 4s

My 2008 gen 2 C4S paired nicely using SIM ACCESS PROFILE to my Blackberry phone. I the bought an iPhone 3GS which wouldn't pair. My OPC "downgraded" the firmware of the PCM to enable it to pair with the Handsfree profile. This works but is far inferior to the original spec.

I'm trying to find out if my new iPhone 4S will work in SAP, if so I can return to the OPC for them to re enable the full functionality of the PCM.

Would appreciate any helpful input.

Cheers

Nick

Nick,
I'm fairly certain that the iPhone 4 doesn't support SAP in the same way and for the same reason it's predecessors didn't! I.e SAP was developed by Nokia and Apple won't pay them for the licence to use SAP on their phones. Samsung have it and my Galaxy S2 I-9100 works a treat (and is rated as good if not better than the iPhone by most comparison sites!) I'd send the iPhone back and get a Samsung!

Thanks for the speedy response, I'm pretty sure you are right, I was at the 991 launch at Chester Porsche on Tuesday and they didn't have a clue there!

Never mind, the phone is great in most other respects so I'll have to put up with this minor inconvenience.

Sadly the 4S still does not support SAP.

I lost my Nokia 6303 i last week and an just about to replace it with an i phone. I stumbled on this thread by chance so need info please. My 997 Gen 2 GT3RS has no PCM but I got it fitted for phone, ie bluetooth. Do you mean the i phone will not bluetooth with my RS ? And what s SAP and it s relevance to me ?

Thanks, really glad I saw this thread, proves the forum works !

Yes it will bluetooth with the car. SAP = Sim access profile whereby the PCM can pair with the phone's sim card and use the relevant features as opposed to HFP = hands free profile where the car just becomes the speaker and microphone. All Nokias and recent Samsungs have SAP (and a few others) Notably, Apple phones do not.
Without PCM you will not miss SAP on your phone!

Is this a problem even with the PCM and iPod connector? About to order an iPhone 4S too so glad I saw this post!

Does it not work at all?

Thanks

Works as a car kit fine, but doesn't give the full usability of SAP

Can you send SMS through the radio too Gary?

My old Gen II Boxster S and Carrera GTS both connect by bluetooth to Apple 3S (and then to 4 and 4S) with full address book sync (I have over 1000 contacts).

These phones also connect automatically via bluetooth to my Mercedes and a Garmin sat nav in my wife's runabout.

Never had a problem.
