iPhone stereo upgrade

I am looking to find the most unobtrusive way to have an aux out from the standard Porsche sat nav/stereo so I can power/use my iPhone for music. I cannot see any obvious aux out, but there may be one in the back that just needs to be threaded out etc.

Anyone have experience and know if this is possible, or do I need a whole new add in unit that would support this? I guess there is room in the CD holder area below the screen to put something in if need be. I am not looking to necessarily do this myself, so would also need a good (read trusted/experienced) place that would do this.

Again, many thanks for any leads and help.

The standard radio in my 986 has been changed by pressing buttons to allow aux in where the CD changer would go. I can't remember the sequence of buttons but a Google search should find it. Then a lead from eBay for a couple of pounds plugged into the CD changer socket and gave me 2 phono sockets as input. I used to have a Harmon Kardon unit feed this but it only connected iPods and I have moved to using my iPhone for music.

So I recently took out the Harmon Kardon unit and bought an iphone lead with USB for charging and a 3.5mm plug for aux in along with a charger from eBay for about £8. The next bit needed a bit of DIY. I bought an inline cigarette lighter socket from Maplin and made a lead with parts from Maplin with an inline 3.5mm socket and 2 phono plugs to connect to my line in.

Out came the old CD tray. The inline lighter socket was connected into the switched 12v from the back of the radio and the charger plugged in. Into the 3.5mm socket and USB in the charger were plugged the iPhone lead. A new storage pocket was purchased from Porsch-apart to replace the CD tray and a hole made in the back so the lead comes out. Now I have 2 storage pockets in the centre console with a cable in the top one that I plug my iPhone into. As I have Music from the iPod in my iPhone, Digital Radio and Sat Nav apps it works well and is a tidy solution whilst maintaining a bit of originality. The standard radio sounds really good as well.

There was one problem, a lot of whine from the alternator. I found a Kensington inline filter lead on Amazon and added this behind the new storage pocket. It has fixed the problem, however, the whine was present on the Harmon Kardon unit and had got worse over time. My conclusion is the alternator shouldn't cause a whine and I guess there is a suppressor in the regulator gone so it probably won't affect all installations. The alternator still works and charges so I won't concern myself too much at the moment.
