iPod and Bluetooth integration into PCM2

Hi All,

I want to integrate my iPod with PCM2 and include bluetooth hands-free phone connection, What is the best way forward?

Thanks,
B

The mObridge or Dension Gateway adapters are the usual two choices, both of which can integrate iPod and Bluetooth phone. Tooki adapters give Bluetooth connectivity, but I don't think they do an ipod connection.

Tooki has bluetooth for the phone,

You can stream music via bluetooth but the quality is not great.

Dension make great bits of kit.

I'm considering doing this has anybody done either the MoBridge or Denison gateway upgrade and can comment on quality price etc. I've looked on the web and I'm a little confused to say the least

edited to add I've got a gen 2 ipod and an iphone 4S

According to my research (aided by Richard, of course), the Parrot MKi series can be used with PCM 2 (and 2.1 & 3) as well as the older, non fibre optic versions like my 2003 C2 has.

This is a lot cheaper than the alternatives mentioned above. They also have an interface available to enable you to use your steering wheel controls for the Parrot. See below.

I will be fitting MKi9200 to my car when the weather warms up a bit.

Thanks Stuart,

main priority is linking the ipod for music as the car is only used weekends holidays etc that said hands free phone would make sense. I've a pal who has a VW with a parrot system installed and I get a terrible echo whenever I call him in the car.

I've sort of made my mind up its between the Mobridge and Denison and wanted a comparison between the two from a quality perspective, I think both are a lot more expensive and the MoBridge edges it?

I have put a Denison Gateway Lite into my 2005 987 Boxster S. It does not have bluetooth though. Then I did not want that? The sound is really good. I use an I-Pod nano for my music and it gives the option of running off a flash drive if needed. The only down side is that the text on the dash and unit only reads CD1 track 1 all the time, not that that is an issue for me.
If you have not got a CD changer (mine is the CDR24 unit no changer) then you will need to take your car to the local Porsche Dealer to have that function switched on.
The cost - Porsche charged £69 to do the switch and the local ICE shop supplied and fitted the Denison for £350. The Denison fits behind the CDR24 unit and cant be seen. You can if wanted fit a holder for I-Pod etc to the car but I did not want to screw or stick anything on the dash panels so mine lays in the centre console and the aux conector is in the glove box.
Hope this helps?[;)]

Thanks Phil,

I've got the PCM2 head unit and a cd auto changer already. I'd quite like something that utilises the screen on the PCM if that were possible. Also I'd be keen to use an installer who has experience of Porsche installations rather than them learning on my car!!

I bought and fitted (ok - got a friend to fit) a used Dension 500 to my 2004 986 which already had Sound Package Plus and the CDC-4 stacker in the front boot. Once we'd sorted out the exact configuration of the fibre optic connectors, it was fairly easy to fit. I play MP3s from a USB stick but it came with the necessary cables to connect an iPod or iPhone. Sound quality - especially now I've replaced the dash speakers - is fine. But I don't have Bluetooth. I've never quite figured out the PCM control though - can never seem to get it to play from separate folders properly.

I believe the Denison Gateway 500 would give you the text you wanted. Just my unit (CDR24) did not support the text from either []
As I said not to sure if Denison does Bluetooth?
Good luck.

thanks,

which installers have you guys used. The ones listed on the denison website don't show Denison as a brand when I've clicked through to their websites

I'm not so sure about the Parrot interface now. The brochure I have says it is compatible, but I think it was minny who asked a supplier, and was told it wasn't. It definitely needs checking.

If time isn't the issue, keep an eye on eBay. I bought a VisseO MOSTO S1-B for £77, which gives me Bluetooth for the 'phone, and a NAV-TV OPi-P iPod adapter for £75. The MOSTO and OP-iP units aren't as well known as Tooki, Dension, or Mobridge, so they attract less bidders, or in my case, none other than me!

Cheers Richard, Car is SORN at the moment so have a bit of time. Going to Le Mans for the classic again this year and Mrs W is coming. Rather than take a load of CDs I want to get the Ipod hooked up.

Denison list a bluetooth extension kit to go with the gateway 500 but I don't know of anyone who's used it and can give an opinion
