Ipod and Bluetooth module Question.

Hello all...

Firstly may I point out this is not a promotional gig, I am a new owner of and 08 997 ( Yeeees...at last !! :) ).

I also do realise that it is bad forum etiquette to dive straight in for help without establishing myself on the board, but hey I need advice !!

The two things I want to add to my 997 2S are ipod connectivity and Bluetooth. Frankly I think the telephone integration thing with the SIM card slot is not that great.

A local company ( John Kleise of Reading ) have advised me that the following are good options.

http://www.nav.tv/products/por-ipod?car=177

This product seems to be a fully integrated IPOD connection kit that replaces the cd changer ( which I dont need ). It seems to connect into the PCM and will show all IPOD info on the screen.

The second product is for Bluetooth..

Again this seems to integrate into the PCM and provides full phone functinality over Bluetooth.

Does anyone on here have any experience of these modules ? I would welcome a conversation if you have to understand the +s and -s. It would really ease my mind to find out more before I have the car fitted.

Thanks

Colin.

Whatever you have done you might need to make sure its undo-able otherwise it will probably invalidate your Porsche warranty.

They're chuffin' expensive, but then all proper integration systems appear to be too. Will be interested in how you get on - my 2004 Boxster has PCM2 and given I've just been given an iPod, I'd like to find an integration solution. But I too have a Porsche warranty and am likely to be renewing it - and when I do that, the PCM will be covered.

Hi Colin,

Welcome to the forum.

Can I ask whether or not your 2S is a Gen 1 or Gen 2 car?

If you have a Gen1 car, I would either go down the MoBridge or Denison ipod connectivity route. I installed a MoBridge to my Gen1 car and it worked well.

As for Bluetooth connectivity, I cannot help on that count.

Hope this was of some help,

Regards
Mark

I have the Tooki bluetooth phone thingy. £500 + VAT fitted by a local (non-Porsche) installer in my new 997 cabrio last year. It integrates seamlessly with the PCM and has worked faultlessly since installation, even with the top down! The new microphone fits very neatly on the A-pillar and is much better placed for speech pick-up than on the steering column, as per the Porsche phone module. One minor shortfall is that I can't access my phone's address book via the PCM, but I think that is a phone specific thing and most phones will allow full connectivity. Not a problem for me as I never make calls when driving anyway. It's just handy to be able to receive a call when urgent. My phone is a Nokia E90.

Thanks for the responses so far.

I called the people at ww.nav.tv about their products here is what I got...

Basically neither product are suitable for what I need....

- The Bluetooth unit will only download upto 250 contacts. I have a Blackberry which has 450 contacts in.

- My Ipod has about 30-35Gb of music and they tell me that the interface will not cope fast enough to be able to display the information at a reasonable speed.

They do have a new product coming out in the next couple of months called VEHICLE DOCK, which will cope with both demands listed above AND will be able to play video from ipod to the 911...Cool.

Mark, I am embarressed to say...I dont know. I bought the car this year, 5months old. First registered in March 08. If you are asking if it is the very latest 911, then I guess no.

Thanks, Colin.

So thats those options out of the window.

take a look at the parrot website, I am having a one fix integration of my i phone into my gen 1 997 . It will allow i pod function and i phone function with one connection and to interrupt music to take calls etc, it has a remote module to control the music and make calls.

worth a look and i will report on my findings

Hi Colin, search Dension GW500 gateway and mobridge on the web. Also see my post on the Dension unit in the 997 forum dated 21/09/08 titled "OPC refuse to activate Dension GW500". The Dension unit is a great piece of kit and the bluetooth option is quite a cheap option, it all works very well in my car.
