IPOD connector - anyone tried this?

No personal experience, but I have heard good things about them. I have some Porsche-specific fitting instructions I got from a friend on Renntech - email me if you would like a copy. I assume you have a CDR23, and if you haven't got a CD changer, you will need to get the system coded to recognise the Ice-link.

I am looking at doing this .. as in ipod connection... the perfect solution!!

I think this is a tad expensive!!!

I'll explore the area and let you inow what I find!!

I bought a dedicated ipod so apparently the wiring just replaces the single Cd player!??!

I am probably very wrong?? lol

It's usually much easier in a 1998 car as everything is hard-wired. The later cars (which I assume Phil's is) have the MOST fibre optic bus. There is no aux input on the head unit either, so you need a device like the Ice-link to integrate an iPod into the system.

My local car audio guy is going to install this for me - I will report back in due course....

Phil

I fitted a Dension ICE Link a year or so ago, it was very easy to fit and the results are good. (Although I have a pre-MOST system and so it may be slightly different)

The sound quality is fine, there is no noticeable difference to CD quality;
I have found it best to make playlists as the Dension mimics a CD changer and so the CD disc select allows playlists to be selected;
I keep mine in the glove box and just have it on random play or playlist, if you get the optional external bracket you can obvioulsy control the features of the I-pod much more easily.

All in all a decent system - although the fibre optic version is a little more pricey than mine!

I have the Icelink in my 2003 TT (with MOST). I was relatively easy to fit and sounds great. It comes with direct iPod connection but also an Aux in for any other source.

I have the CDR23 so control is a bit limited but I couldn't find a better solution. I bought mine of Ebay so it was much cheaper.

Just found this - looks like a good solution if it works:

Any feedback gratefully received....

I purchased that very item from the same company , as the Becker interface is out of stock with everyone.
total rubish did not work, they ended up sending me three as none worked I even shelled out £40.00 quid to my local install guy, thinking it was me. In the end i rang desion direct they said they had not made that item for a year, and i had been sound returned items. Im waiting for the becker item now.

thanks for conflicting views - I have ordered it and will be fitted by my local audio guys so if it no good I get to refuse it. Being fitted Friday so will try to take some photos and post results...

Just got car back after install and initial impressions:
sound great - as of course digital would be no different to cd quality
navigation of menus inutially confusing and the manual virtualy useless as it has to be fairly general as the display will be different depndent upon the vehicle/ststem it is hooked up to.
Having fought it for an hour its now easier to navigate around but in no way intuitive. The menus can take several seconds to load which makes you think nothing is happening then the info will load up.
Overall so far I'd give it 7 out of 10 so pretty good.
