iPod in car

Hi Guys and Gals

I have purchased an iPod and the clever little transmitter called iTrip. I have got a car charger, but am now struggling to find a practical way to mount it like you might a carphone. I already have a PDA mounted on the windscreen and do not want to have any more on there and hate the idea of a vent mount.

I have contacted the Brodit distributor in UK and they are sending me suggestions, but if anyone has any ideas with other products or manufacturers, please respond to this post. I will post pictures on here as soon as I start the project.

Regards

Phil

Yeah, the Brodit is the best option but its pricey for just a piece of plastic. Still I think it works well and looks OK.
If you have a dark interior all the better. The brodit holds the iPod very tight and the iPod mount is adjustable.
It doesn't hinder any other controls and doesn't cause passengers any problems either. In fact the passenger can
simply turn the iPod to face them and they then can control it. Recommended.

A close up of the Brodit.
Also I note your using the iTrip. I got one of these too. I find it picks up so much static and has a lot of background noise. In the end I fitted a Denssion Ice Link. The beauty of this is that it powers the iPod and charges it and has some control from the head unit. Albeit, my head unit doesn't have the control facility.

Dose the Denison link simply connect direct to the head unit in the normal multi player port?
I found This but it doesn't mention Porsche in its compatibility list, is it the same piece of kit?
What controls do you have with it?

I use an iTrip at the moment, its good but can be a bit fussy to tune, never on the move [:)]

I notice from Scouser's photos you have a Parrot bluetooth kit installed in your Boxster.

I've just taken one out of my old car and intend to install it in my new Boxster any ideas if it connects with a Bose system?

Bit off topic but hope you can help.

OK, just to clear things up. First my car is a 996 not a Boxster. But I don;t have the standard Porsche supplied Bose kit......it was my aftermarket own Bose install.
The Parrot simply connects to the head unit (inline) and uses the tele mute feature. It comes with all the connectors to do this. (it's bloody good too!)
Secondly, my head unit is not Porsche standard equipment either. Come to think of it, my whole ice system is add on. I took the crappy Becker 220 system out
and threw it along with the speakers. I have a kicker amp installed under the floor in the front bonnet with a dummy floor. Bose speakers installed in the dash
and rear panels and a bazooka tube specially made to fit behind the passenger seat. The head unit is a Blaupunkt DX R70 Sat nav system with Dennsion Ice link for the iPod
although for this model Blaupunkt, they didn;t desgn the pre-input stage correctly so the Denssion required some electronic hacks to get it to work. As far as I know it will
work with all other Blaupunkt, Kenwood and Pioneer systems.....so long as it has the blue and yellow EURO standard plugs you have no problem.
The Denssion unit does connect direct to my Blaupunkt unit but it "replaces" the multi-cd changer which cannot be used in situ and is defunct. But who needs it
if you have an iPod ;) There are no controls. You simply turn on the head unit, select CD change and turn on your iPod and away you go. Just select a track and play it.
The iPod masquerades as a CD changer. That's why you can't have both. If the Denssion was a perfect match with my head unit (that is, Blaupunkt had dessigned
it correctly as in their other head units) then the controls on the iPod will work on the head unit. So you actually see the tracks and names etc on the head unit display.
You also get to seek track etc using the head and.or the iPod. But on the DX-R70 it don't work like this........but then I like the Sat Nav feature so live with it.
Hope this helps.
