ipod interface kit

Hi Everyone,

Firstly Merry Christmas and soon to be happy new year!!

I have an 08 987 Boxster (Gen 1) and noticed that Gen 2 cars have a nice ipod interface setup in the centre armrest cubby hole. Is this the setup that you get if you ask for the ipod interface kit at an OPC? Anyone had this installed? Any good? If so how much should I be able to get it fitted for? Any club discount applied at Reading OPC?

BTW I don't have the navigation screen, just the standard radio/cd unit with no stacker!

Many Thanks

Jase.

There are two slightly different systems depending on whether you opt for PCM or not. You'll find that if you use the on-line Configurator, the price jumps significantly for the PCM version since it offers far more functionality (you can control the iPod from the PCM) and better audio. Without PCM I believe the audio quality isn't as good and you can only control the volume.

I don't know if either system can be retro-fitted - I suspect not. Third-party MOST-compatible systems like the Mobridge and Dension offer excellent integration and are cheaper, but of course would invalidate the Porsche warranty.

Its the probably the only thing i am dissapointed about on my Gen2. It was not clear from the ordering process that PCM is required to get the full IPOD interface :(

Try contacting your local DENSION audio supplier. They make aftermarket interfaces suitable for the MOST equipped cars. The interface allows the Cd changer controls on the original head unit to control the i pod. Its fiddly to start with but the only option available to you with a 987.
