Irritating start up...987.2

My 2.9 2009/60k Boxster has been stood still for 4 weeks, but charged every 8 or 9 days for 8 hours.
thought today I would start it and my 73 911 to tune in to all the lawn mowers..

locking did did not work off the key fob, but all opened and started with the usual slow churn for3 seconds.
sat at fast idle as usual and then settled to a low 600 rpm idle and a tapper tick.
During warm up engine still tapped ticking, low idle and a bit lumpy, as if on 5 cylinders.
Almost at operating temp took it for a short Italian Service, about 3/4 mile to 6k several times, back home, checked oil level which was perfect. Idle now normal, ticking gone...

Before starting, checked coolant level, dropped from max...

Started the 911.
engine 140,000 miles old. Started perfect and ticked over to temperature, even and nice as it always does.

Progress?

Locking from the key fob is disabled automatically after 7 days, so that's not actually a fault.

Sorry to hear that changing your coolant filler caps hasn't solved the leak.

Yes, know about the key going to sleep, but I'm sure it took longer than 7 days a few years back!

I will simply keep putting a frw drops of antifreeze in the car every so often, don't have the energy to do the cross pipes!
Saving a fortune on fuels and days-out so might cheat and get it to Zuffenhaus when allowed.

Started Boxster 986 2001S for first time since December this week. No smoke. Ran for 30 mins perfectly with normal idle speed after initial fast idle for a minute or two. Engine reached full temperature. Battery is always charged on CTek 24/7 so no problems there. Remote locking goes to sleep on my car after five days, it says so in the handbook.

Similar behaviour with 1981 911SC. Started and warmed for about 10 mins at 1300 rpm then settled at 800 rpm. Ran for 30 mins OK and filter oil temperature reached about 78C.

Hi G ??
Both my 987.1s made a ticking noise on cold start - I was advised it was the cold start system on the fuel pump and nothing to worry about. I d9nt know if the .2 is the same.
Missing the hills ??
L xx

Yo!
Thanks for the info!
Yes, the non-happening of the hillclimb circus is a big loss to us all, really doubt it will 'run' this year, maybe every venue will get one in in Sept/October if the Landlords allow it.
I've been told Shelsley are going to pour the meetings on every weekend when the restrictions lift....
Nice to know you frequent these pages, best watch my P's and Q's.[:)]
