Is 3.6 more than 3.8

Finally booked my C4S in to the local OPC to get the short shift fitted. They are doing a few other things to .. So being helpful, or maybe smelling a bigger bill, they've put me in a nice black 997.2 loaner .. But herein lies my problem.

On a short trip down to heathrow this morning I thought I'd test out the paltry 3.6 .. And couldn't help but feel it was more gutsy, more hungry to rev than my 3.8.
Promise I'm sober, but I'd actually say it was quicker. Sounded bloody good too.

So while the loaner doesn't have sports exhaust, or Bose, or a sun roof, or sports seats, or .. the list goes on. I couldn't help but be impressed by the little 3.6.
Heck it even had good MPG.
Maybe i am going mad.

Hi Peter. I totally agree with you. I'm still in my 2003 3.6 996 (and I realise that things have moved on a lot since then) but I also drove one of the 3.6 997.2 (PDK, unfortunately[:(]) around central London a while back.
The engine naturally revs far far quicker than any of the previous 3.6 or 3.8 models mainly due to the new direct injection. Even at stand still I was amazed at how quickly the rev counter whisked 'round to the 6/7000 mark. This makes for a far more nimble response when it comes to the driving experience.
I've always felt that the 3.6 is the best of the bunch - unless you really do have to have that .4 of a second quicker to sixty in your life!!?? The 3.6 makes the most sense to me - it's even half the cost in road tax!! (£210) Bonus!

Even if I had millions of pounds to spend it would still be the 3.6 for me![:)]

Adrian.

The new Dfi engines also have a lot less internal masses as the intermediate shaft and additional chain drives has been removed. I would suggest this also adds to the response of the engine.

Good job they didn't lend you a 997.2S by the sound of it!! Quite a difference between the Gen1 and 2 engine and a bit more grunt...

Enjoy the short shift though - everyone who has one loves it.
