Is big mileage a problem

Gentlemen, I've just popped over from the 944 forum to have a look here for some advice, my significant other has (at last) caught the Porsche bug- it's only taken me 4 years. She is talking about changing her MX5 for an early boxster, my question to those of you who know is; how high does the mileage have to be before it becomes a worry- we have seen a couple of nigh on 100k milers (with history) which would suit our budget but are we buying big trouble??
thanks

Service history is the most important issue, I have had 100K plus porkers and ex garage queens the latter being more of a problem [;)]

Not heard of any problem with high-milage cars yet...

I had to change my battery two months ago! [&:]

It only lasted 8.5 years! [:D]

The only issues that I have are those associated with lots of miles:

Stone chips, dings in most panels and a "Lived in" interior - it takes quite a long time to rack up a 100k.

Have had my '01 Boxster S for nearly 6 yrs, its covered 71k. Replaced the alternator last year and the water pump a few days ago but reckon its done well considering its almost 8 yrs old! All the rest has been regular servicing. It should have long since gone as I bought a classic 911 but havn't quite managed to bring myself to sell [;)]

I've done 74k in nearly 6 years. To be honest (touch wood!) I've seen more problems on here with low mileage cars. Typically the well-known early life failures take place in warranty on daily drivers (and get fixed properly with later spec parts if there has been a mod) but can appear a long time outside warranty on low-mileage cars and cause expensive problems. If you find a high mileage car with one owner and a full service history it may well be a better bet than a low mileage one with 4 or more owners, none of whom have bothered to do anything other than showboat.

thanks to all who posted, we have just put down a deposit on a beautiful 96k miler 3.2, with full porsche service history!

looking forward to collecting it and driving down to the Ace Cafe in January, hope to see you there.
