Is Extended Warranty Worth Having?

I've just had both rear light clusters replaced under warranty due to very small amounts of condensation in each.
The cost £960 + VAT and fitting! []
So I would say Yes every time.[;)]

Clive.

In the space of 9 months:-
1 x pdk
2 x PCM's
1 x High Pressure Fuel Pump

and that's a 2010 997.2

So I'd agree

Make that two RCS

I would given the opportunity. Purchased last Feb, spent around £5,500 on getting to a stage where the
car becomes part of the family and as a consequence a pleasure [:)]

Thought Porsche Warranty now could be put on cars up to 15 years old subject to 111 point check Bear911? Worth a call to your OPC to check?

Replacement PDK Gearbox in 2012 on my 997 Gen2. Cost in the region of £9,000 I was told. So a no-brainer as far as I'm concerned!!

Cars up to 14 years old are now eligible for Porsche Extended Warranty provided the mileage does not exceed 125,000.
Cost is £1,100 for 12 months or £1,920 for 24 months (13 year old cars) as standalone warranty or £1,020 and £1,840 for warranty extension.
Eligibility for Approved Warranty is subject to a 111 point check (charged at fixed cost of £180 +VAT) plus any work identified by the check.
Porsche Centres will absorb the cost of this in a service if carried out at the same time.
Regards,
Clive.

My last year's premium was a complete waste of money - nothing went wrong (I'm pleased to report). However, Porsche parts and labour, even at indies, are not cheap and I would not dream of running a modern Porsche, with all its gadgetry and electronics, without an extended warranty - just in case!

Definitely yes!
Over the 2 1/2 year period I owned my 997.2 RS, I had £18kish of warranty work on it & that was just for parts??
While ever I run one of these cars & it is eligible for the warranty, it will have it. You hope that things won't go wrong & in the majority of cases they don't. But, if they do go in a big way, get ready for a wallet busting experience if you don't have that cover!!!

Was advised with an aftermarket PSE (yes Porsche supplied) i won't get one (the Alpine head unit totally puts me out the market). That said having overspent in the first instance a further £2000 wasn't on the cards anyway. Just have to keep rubbing that lucky rabbit's foot.

Having had a couple of claims dealt with under warranty on a 20k miles 997 GTS I can see the value in the warranty. I was wondering about the cost of the 111 point check though, and when this might be waived. I use the OPC @ Reading for everything and in the last 12 months (and 1500 miles) had a major service, PDK fluid, MOT, underbody wax, new tyres and new pads and discs all round. I perhaps naively thought this sort of business would be good enough for them to waive the cost of the inspection, but apparently this isn't something they do. Does anyone else have a different experience, or am I being a stereotypical Scot looking to save a little money?

Don’t think my local OPC officially waived it but it was included in price of warranty if I took it. If I didnt I had to pay for the 111 point check

"The 111 Point Check is required to be completed in order to qualify the warranty to be extended and this is £252.00 Inc. VAT.
You then have the choice of a one year policy or two as below:
One year - £1020.00
Two year - £1840.00
Porsche Assistance policy bolt on:
One year – £175.00
Two year - £285.00"

Above are the prices I've been quoted in case they're of interest / relevance .

It's always a good idea to agree terms before the work is carried out.

My local PC includes a free warranty check when made simultaneously with a major service. They do this on the basis much of the work needed is duplicated during the process.

I guess, in the end, it depends on how competitive the total service cost is because if they're discounting this, there may be less margin to enable them to provide a free check.
Regards,

Clive

I use the same PC as Clive and I have never paid for a 111 point as it has always been done at the same time as a service, minor or major. As we have said many times over, not all PCs are created equal.. [;)]
