Is it an S?

Hello, I've found a well cared for 944 Turbo that I'm considering for purchase. It's advertised as a Turbo S. Can anyone tell me how to verify that it's indeed an S model with the higher spec including larger turbo and higher horsepower? Are there any visual characteristics that will identify the car as an S? It is a model year 1988 and has the 030 and 220 (LSD) options. Many thanks in advance for sharing your knowledge.

Off the top of my head Id say it is. A 1988 944 Turbo S is a production model M758. M030 is sport running gear (or other names depending on whom you believe), which includes big brakes and Koni adjustable dampers. M220 is a limited slip differential.

In all likelihood a 1988 car will be finished in Rose Silver with burgundy checked trim and without a sunroof. Later cars were available in other colours and without the slightly garish trim. Theyll all be M758s though, with the other options mentioned.

Please dont call it a 'Silver Rose', or even worse; a '952'.....

Whats the engine code on a 220? the engine code (in handbook sticker and on sticker in boot) on a 1990 250 is '952'
Tony

Found this online and you need to check the engine number near the exhaust manifold towards the bulk head end.

LOOK FOR ENGINE CODE M44/52

Usually states Turbo S on the log book, if it is 88 MY, no sunroof, M030 running gear there is a good chance that it is.
