Is it cheating ?

Last night I dreamed I had a '96 993 and was driving it up and down the country.
I hadn't sold my s2 but this morning when I woke up I couldn't look my s2 in the headlights.
I had 2 showers but still feel guilty.

Kevin, try getting out and about more, maybe make some friends, good to hear you personal hygiene is up to scratch, perhaps you need a break, are you sure your S2 isnt playing away from home? Maybe with another owner? As for your feelings of guilt...try thinking "wholesome" thoughts[:D] best wishes

Don't feel guilty. I too have a hankering for a 993, although everytime I get back into my 944 I feel much, much better.

Feedback from pals who have had 944's then gone to 993's say that after a 4 hr journey in the 944 you feel fresh as a daisy, but in a 993 you know you've done a 4 hr journey (offset pedals, heavy clutch, noisier), so it's not a 100% perfect car and they all have a reminiscant smile on their face when talking about their 944 days.

I wonder if we would have these inferiority complexes about 944's if their 2nd hand values were comparable to the 911's?? Certainly from a build quality standpoint and other aspects that make a Porsche a Porsche the 944 is easily equivalent to a 993 and in more tangible ways is a better car (e.g. handling). However the 993 seems to invoke those intangible aspects that cloud your better judgement.

I'll definately have a 993 one day but ideally I would like to keep hold of the 944 as I get the impression the 993 would go before the 944.

Ive currently a foot in both camps and whilst the 993 is everything I hoped it would be , I havent even advertised the 944 yet because quite frankly for the money it is worth it just doesn't do the car justice , there is no way that the 993 is 4x's better than the 944 that's for sure... I hadn't driven the 944 for about a week until yesterday and I gave the old girl a 30 mile run and the smile was still there , I just need to convince my financial adviser ( partner [:D] ) that a 944 is going to increase in value so I might as well keep the old girl...

I bought the 993 as I had an itch I simply had to scratch and I love the aircooled engine and grunt but the passion I have for the S2 has not evaporated one ounce .

Have you spoken to someone about it?Counselling maybe?Hope there's no children involved.[:D]

No chizzlers involved. The car is under cover when it's not racing around the country so it can't even LOOK at other cars. The thing is, I dont' even want a 993.
My mate had an old 911 and the interior was tatty and the ride was the next stage on from teeth shattering.
I'll just have to go to a priest and confess my sins.

Or you could go and stand in a corner and have a good long think about what you've done![:D]

Kevin

Now, repeat after me, "I am a Porsche driver and I love my car. There is nothing wrong with looking at another Porsche."

Repeat this 944 times and you should feel much better.

But if you win the Lottery.......

sounds like you need to keep a haream of Porsches for when the urge take you [;)]

Is that why you have so many??
I'm trying to get rid of these urges, not encourage them
Are you the Divil ?

Tell you whats even sadder than that: during a dream about driving my Porsche, trying to work out where the latest squeak or knock is coming from...

I vaguely recall someone comparing mental adultery with a diet. It is ok to look at the menu so long as you do not eat.

Rather like an ex-President who did not inhale?

Dream on, any Porsche is worth spending some time day or night dreaming about.

I wouldn't go as far as saying it's cheating. A bit perverted dreaming about an air-cooler, but...... [;)]

If the second hand values of 944s were similar to 911s, a lot of people who currently own very nice Porsches wouldn't own Porsches at all.

Personally, I don't have any sort of inferiority complex about a 944 or any other car. I've owned a lot of cars of various desirability, but I buy them because I like them, not because of what other people think. In my view, it's great that 944s aren't seen as "proper" Porsches, as it means I don't have 25 grand tied up in the very nice car that's sitting on my driveway.

Another advantage of not being a "proper" Porsche, is that other road users don't tend to think you're a to##er, and give you a bit more courtesy [:D]

What would you want a 993 for?!
Awful.
If you want to stray from home, then at least a 996 / 997. The 959 being the better choice. Now there's a supercar.

Have you ever been anywhere near a 996? What about a proper air-cooled 911? I seriously doubt you have after that last post.

Have you ever driven a 993 ? or a 959/996/997 ? if so then you're comment that 993's are awful was either tongue in cheek or quite frankly Im baffled...

I'm sorry but the 996 was a step back for the 911 after the 993. Obviously a victim of too many accountants and HSE guys getting involved, although I do understand it was neccessary to guarantee Porsche's independance. The last thing I want to see is Porsche being swallowed up by Ford or worse....Fiat. It's just boring to look at and even more boring to drive (according to a mate who's just traded in his 993 C4S for a 996 turbo - he's gutted and wants his 993 back). The 997 on the other hand is a step back in the right direction but i'm afraid it suffers from the same thing most modern cars do - no soul. The 993 is the ultimate 911...so far. In anycase the 959 was based on the 993.

Anyway the question I have is will the proposed new Panamerica (or whatever it's called) going to be the new 944?? It's front engined and I guess will have a rear transaxel - the ultimate configuration, none of this mid-engined nonsense!
