Is it just me?

Is it just me or are all Porsche forums full of people asking the same questions that have been covered to death?.

Why do people never search?

Sometimes I see threads asking the same questions about five topics apart.

Partly because the search function on this forum is a chocolate fireguard most of the time!

On a more serious note, I agree with you - I'm on 2 Porsche and 2 MB forums and find the same thing time and again, and occasionally have been known to reply with "RTFM" or "use the search function"!![:-][:-]

It wouldn't frustrate me as much if the repeat topics were more than 1 page apart.

In fact most pages look almost identical apart from the topics are in a different order LOL.

Thirteeneast, sorry if my question was one which caused you to raise this issue. As someone who is new to the forum (although been a member of others) I will make sure I search in future before asking for advice & help. Mike

I agree that the search facility can be a challenge, and often simply fails. Putting in a time filter is essential.

I don't think it is you Mike. Short shifter threads, although frequent, aren't in the same league as oil, tyres, exhausts, brakes or grilles. [;)]

Yeah it wasn't Mike,

Short shifter is one that isn't covered quite as much.

[:D]

Anyway I blew some steam out and feel better now, Anyone know what grade oil I should be using[:D]

Castor or cod liver are the first 2 that come to mind....no capsules allowed, has to be off a tablespoon!! [:D][:D]

There is something to be said for new members asking the question again as sometimes the last serious answer might have been 2 or 3 years ago, things change, oils change spec, new products come to the market etc all these can change the answer.

As a recent convert the Porsche fraternity I have looked through a few forum, found using the search function a real lottery, hence asking a 'daft question' that has been asked before, nice to find people that take the time to respond with useful info, is there a degree of snobbery showing here?

I think just about every question must have been answered in the last 8-ish years I have been doing this. I suppose it could be replaced by a good search engine, but it would be a bit quiet and dull around here.

Some things may be obvious to the seasoned 996er, but to newcomers it is the first time they have encountered them. Let's keep it as busy a place as possible, and enlighten the new members with our experiences.

Maybe some of us are more gifted than others at searching.

I didn't make this post thinking it would change people, but maybe we wont see any repeats for a while?

Ive found its all about what you type, if the search function was as good as google i think things would improve alot (by that i mean if you misspell something it asks you if you meant the correct spelling).

Textar pads & Sebro discs is what RH told me is a good combo & I don't think anyone will dispute him[;)]

Post back on the right track!

at least i can now check back on my own profile to find the answer should I forget[8D]

The good news is that it looks like the forum software might be updated soon.

Maybe the search engine will work better then.

Hi,

I am new to the forum and looking to buy a 996.

Can you please tell me about IMS and RMS failures, I hear all engines explode upon passing 50% throttle or 40k miles??

Is it right the entire engine is considered a 'serviceable item'? And should be replaced every 40k?

Also can I buy cheap nasty non N-rated budget Haribo tyres?

Shall I get an Auto or manual? I like to eat my KFC while driving so not changing gear would be great, however, I also like to hoon the hell out of my car from cold so would like a manual to maximise RPM and engine damage.

Which colour combination would god himself choose as the most divine?

Lol, it was all in jest :)

To be honest I've been posting on the merc forum this week as a newbie and appreciate any advice, although I have done a ton of searching on google and the mercedes forums before posting, so most of my posts are very specific.

When I came on here I was the same as in, asking silly questions no doubt.

I don't mind new people asking questions on forums, if I can help then great, but when you stay in the same place for so long, the same things get recycled :))
