I had my C4S in for a major service, an RMS warranty job and a clutch and fly wheel whilst they were at it, and a very nice job they did too. There is always a "however" though, and that is no jibe at my Indie either as they have said to bring it straight back if there is a problem.
I am increasingly thinking it is me but I had a bit of a drama yesterday.
I was at a junction, went to take first to pull away and it did'nt feel like there was a first gear to select (manual obviously!) the stick went forward with no sensation of "notch" and there was no bite as the clutch came up, tried second no problems, tried first, nothing there, tried third, nothing there so pulled out in second and after that everything worked fine, no problems since........
Now I am no expert in mechanics however I would struggle to comprehend this being an intermitent problem, if a linkage has broken/come undone it will workk or it won't.
I am wondering if I was having a mind fart and not engaging my new clutch enough but I'm sure it was all the way up. Has anyone else experienced anything like this?

I can answer my own question to some end. The sympton came on again today, this time shifting from 2nd to 3rd, no 3rd to find.....kept the gear stick in position, clutch released no drive and freely revving. I could feel there was no resistance anywhere forward in the H box, 2nd, 4th and 6th gear all available, no 1st, 3rd and 5th seemingly. A bit more driving and all back to normal and then its done it again. I have contacted my indie who have just done the major service, RMS, clutch and fly wheel and they have said bring it straight back to be sorted. Its going back tomorrow morning. So does anyone have any idea of what the cause will be, a rose joint popping in and out in the gear linkage perhaps?

£1 to 1p says that one of the gear linkage cable clips has broken or popped out after they fitted them. It is quite common, and most people just secure them with a cable tie.

This happened to me recently after my RMS was replaced by Aberdeen OPC. See running report for full description. Newcastle OPC fixed it and told me that my linkage was hanging by a thread, although Aberdeen denied any responsibility for this. However like you i can't understand how it can be intermittent i thought the gears would either be there or not be there full stop??

Took it in today and 40 minutes later its sorted. I had a look underneath at the linkage (never seen it before), looked to be like a motorcycle gear linkage rod. The mechanic said it had been popping off and it had now been tightened up. Its working fine now. No bill either [:D]
