I'm sure it isn't, but looks very nice all the same. Anybody know the car?

There was a video on youtube of the area just before the crash. It seemed there was no obvious warning of the roadworks until around 50-100m before the queuing traffic started. The video has now been removed(?).

Seemed avoidable if signposted properly. I hope the guy who was injured is okay.

Also being discussed on Rennlist. It's alleged the RSR is a real one sold by Thomas fairly recently.

Scary thing now is that a lot or most cars now dont have even third party cover on public days.My insurers have just pulled 3 rd party cover for public days, but still full cover for private days.
The rsr does not look to bad for a ring incident

Yes interestingly enough there was a thread here called 993 Supercup or something and that car was in the showroom at the same time as the main car in the photo.

If any of that makes sense then you must be able to read my mind.

I believe that it is a 964 Cup transformed as a racing 964 RSR way back. Sold by a famous German dealer (was then red) to Jean-Marc Rotsaert who raced it in the PCGB around 2006-7. Then refurbished and recently sold again by famous dealer.

I saw said car in the flesh when famous dealer had it for sale (in red) back in 2006-7.

Though not the real thing the car was really well prepared (with Macrolon windows and all).

First thing I thought unusual was for a real RSR not to have front luggage compartment/bonnet pins fitted?

I appreciate, it may make sense to fit a spare bonnet, if you are driving at the ring,(just in case) but still expected bonnet pins as per race regs etc...

Does look a like a nicely prepared car. I remember seeing some pictures of it now......it's the stitched dash top that particularly stuck in my mind!

I know for a fact the car started life as a factory LHD Touring, delivered to the Vatican and driven round the streets of Rome by the Bishop of Sierra Leone, having giving his chauffeaur the day off to wtach Arsenal Juniors play Roma reserves. It suffered car park damage, whilst parked at this event and then was taken back to the secret Vatican Car Park and repaired by the Knights of the Nick. The car was stolen by a very secret Nunn - Hood and spent the next 10 years of it's life being converted to full M001 Cup Car spec with an original Matter Cage, sourced thru St Dennis of Napoli, local OPC.

It had a font built into the cabin for mobile Baptism, this leaked and caused rust to the brake bias stabiliser from the 935 braking system, this may have led to the crash ..

Is that on your local Ring?

Yes, end of home straight, squirrel corner.

Ref. accident Nürburgring: There seems to be not too much damage to the RSR. Crashes happen all the time at the Ring, this one is spectacular with 8 cars involved, some nice sportscars and the Ring Taxi - let´s see, what BMW will do. Strange - it was in a limited speed construction zone.

Before the days of Internet noone would have really noticed.

Rgds,

More video showing the aftermath of the crash on PH. It's surprising more cars weren't involved...

Those involved in the roadworks want shooting!!

Could they have given any less notice and put the notice sign in any worse a place????

Once one car crashed it was just a matter of time till everyone came flying around the corner and joined in [&o]

Very lucky it was not a lot more cars...
