Is it the battery ??

Just having a few running problems on the 964 at the moment, car starts fine, if left running on the drive steadily gets slower and slower then just conks!!

Wont start then as if the battery is totally drained. When charged is fine for a while, am just wondering if it is the battery that`s knackered and not charging or (hopefully not) the alternator is not charging the battery properly.

Any ideas greatly appreciated [8|]

Tony,

If the battery is being drained in what I'm assuming a short space of time I'd guess that it's the battery that's had it. With the engine running the alternator should be generating some charge and you could confirm that with a volt meter across the battery - you should see something approaching 14 volts with the engine running.

When the engine stops it would be useful to measure the voltage then. I'm assuming (again) that at that point it won't turn the engne over.

If the battery is supposedly fully charged when you start the engine I'd be surprised if it drained so quickly - even if the alternator wasn't charging.

Some voltage readings are needed to come to a better conclusion.

Dave

Thanks Dave, think the battery must have had it as I charged it fully then it was drained within a couple of days. Will get down to Andrew Paiges for a new Bosch tomorrow.
