Is it the cold weather.....or something else?

Any ideas on this? Car is booked to go in for a check but posting in case somebody's experienced this....

Background:

Got into the car yesterday morning (always garaged), started first time no problem.
Drove two minutes down the road to fill her up
Re-started car, revs died and it cut out
Re-tried 4 times, same result
No further life from turning the ignition

Got out, locked/unlocked and restarted......This time, it starts fine and has good since. This has happened once before, shortly after having it serviced for the 1st time in Sept. It wasn't especially cold then I recall.

All dashboard readings were showing normal after the issue. Seen this? Any ideas?

BTW, it's a Gen II CS.

Cheers,
Simon

How cold does it get in your garage Simon? I was going to suggest maybe some ice in the fuel line (if you have any water contamination in the fuel) but if happened before in Sept probably not! Not something I've heard of before.

It was very cold in the garage yesterday morning (car reported -2.5c). I also thought the same as you here. The only difference in Sept was that it had sat in a car park all day but the weather was no where near as cold, although it rained a lot.

The only other thing which could be a red herring was that I was very low on fuel before I filled up (25 miles left in tank roughly). Could this combination and the cold weather cause this behaviour do you think?

Cheers,
Simon

I don't know if the fuel tanks on these cars are prone to condensation so it would just be wild speculation Simon! However, there is probably enough fuel in the line to run for a couple of miles before the ice in the tank worked its way along and then after it had stood for a short while that then melted and away you go.........[;)] Aircraft fuel tanks have a water drain valve which is checked daily but then they do get really, really cold![:D]

Later today I'm going to give it a start it will have been sitting idle for a couple of days by then.

We'll see what happens [:)]
