Is it worth chipping?

Hi,

Has anyone chipped there 944S? and if so is it a noticeable difference, I understand that the performance below 3,000 rpm remains the same

I read a very good article on tuning 944 NA models and it stated that the best performance could be obtained by ensuring the Idle control valve, Air flow meter and injectors were in absolute perfect working order. Getting them to work within spec is critical.

Once you have that right go to Promax website and have a look at their offerings here.
Trying to look for power gains before the above items are in perfect working order diminishes the returns. I haven't tried a chip yet, it is on the cards tho, but I have been spending my time ensuring what is standard on the car is working perfectly. And it has made a very big difference to how the car performs.

My 944S is undergoing modification when it's back out of the bodyshop.

I've got an Essential Styling dual pipe rear box. Also going to see if the kokeln filter and adaptor that came off my Turbo will fit on ...

As for chip, I bought a blitz chip (also available, I believe, from another source, with another price).

I've also got a fuel rail gauge and AFPR to go on.

May 7th should show how much overall improvement !

Rick,
I am looking forward to seeing your 'S' dyno results as there don't seem to be any in existence! Have you previously dyno'd it as standard to get a base figure or are you going to assume that it was close to the standard 190HP?

I've never dyno'd it.

However, since I've got all the parts ready to go on, I'll get a set of figures with the G-Tech meter before and after I fit them.

Publish & be damned !! [:D][:D]

Every time we've had a standard 944 (of any type) on the Dyno its made very nearly spot on what Porsche said it should make. Even after many 1000s of miles on the clock, so I reckon the S will still be at the 190bhp mark. I'm looking forward to what Ricks will make at Weltmeister after his upgrades.

Hi Andrew,
My good lady has decided that her 944s2 1990 with 135k on the clock is definitely not as quick as my new 997 S. It currently has a Janspeed back box (only modification) giving her an extra 7 bhp. Our mechanic suggested we we go for S/S system and Ive just seen your post on the Promax. Is this sutable for her S2 and what improvement to 0-60 etc and top speed might she expect. She's the petrolhead and I'm the chequebook !!
Cheers
Simon

No we havent ,but car was previously owned by Porsche racing driver as his private vehicle(must be the only 135k miler with full OPC sevice history as he got big discounts !) and he had it dyno'd and I have no reason to doubt it. If he said 7 bhp then 7 it is. Guards Red/Leather/Cup alloys/Sports steering wheel and immaculate.
Cheers
Simon
